Why do good tv shows always end sooner than it should & what's happened to good tv?

I just watched the series finale of Fraiser & earlier this week the series finale of Friends. I like Fraiser more. Then Cheers ended I was sad. These 3 programs I could always rely on for a good laugh.

Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was another, Family Matters &
Step By Step, Boy Meets World.

Then old school TV like Growing Pains, Who's The Boss,
The A-Team, I Dream of Jeanie, Bewitched, Gilligan's Island, Family Ties, MacGyver, The Incredible Hulk, Miami Vice,
Nash Bridges, Walker Texas Ranger, X-Files, The Wonder Years, The Dukes of Hazzard, Alf, The Brady Bunch, I know there's more but I can't remember at this moment.

Let's not forget the shows that will be ending. I know That 70's Show is ending next year as on the car license plate it will be 79 for the first half of the year & then say 80 for the new year. I'm sure they won't continue it into the 80's. If they did it would be a lot better than the original That 80's Show they tried.

I hope Smallville, Third Watch, & both CSI's aren't ending soon. I don't know what happened to Boston Public. It just stopped at the end of January & they never said what happened.

Now a days they're replacing it with REALITY CRAP TV like The Restaurant, Celebrity Spelling B, The Apprentice, Animals Caught in The Act, Queer eye for the Straight girl or something like that on Fox & all this other crap.

If this is what society has come to, I think it's pretty sad. What nobody wants to work anymore? This is the level of intelligence for the younger kids now (no offence to anybody)?

    Your thoughts are much appreciated.

I think it's pretty sad that the majority of people spend their nights watching TV.

I just took up reading, but that's because Survivor just ended.

Stickboy I only spend 3 evenings a week watching television, now even less that it's summer. Too bad you don't think it's sad that all of these good programs are ending & have ended.

Honestly speaking it is very relaxing to sit down with your girlfriend or wife or alone & just relax watching your favorite program.

Like I said I only spend 3 evenings a week watching TV & even less now that summer's around the corner.

Most of the time I have to tape my programs & watch them on Saturday or Sunday morning or something.

Besides you can't be out all the time. I'm out about 4 times a week not always past 12am though.

Hey man to each his own. If some ppl some nights would rather be in watching tv with eachother or movies, it's their business. If they'd rather be out other nights it's their business.

Nights change every week. For example last Thursday I went out for a drink nothing to late with my lady & a few friends. This Thursday I'm home & watched the series finale of Fraiser.

I don't mind either one. To each his own.

I agree with Johnnny that good television is deteriorating. As much as I once enjoyed reality television, it's all that's on these days. There's nothing new or intuitive coming out, or at least not interesting. It's just a stage I hope, like the gameshow stage and the redecoration shows and fashion shows.

As for shows ending too soon I disagree. I think they end just right, taking after Seinfield. Friends and Frasier were great shows, but there's no point in going in a few extra seasons when the well is almost dry. We've seen series in the past being played way past their prime instead of leaving with a bang (Simpsons, SNL, Survivor).

Plus, who knows what the next few years will bring in the American society? It might not be as cheerful and make people want to sit down, relax, and enjoy television like a steady, reliable economy once allowed in these sitcoms hey day.

Scrubs is a great show. I'll take any chance to spread the word about Scrubs. King of Queens is also great- it breaks away from all the cheap no-name sitcoms out there trying to fill in Friends' shoes. I never miss The Daily Show on Comedy Central.

Yeah I like Scrubs. What ever happened to Good Morning Miami? That was a good show. Remember Stark Raving Mad with Doogie Howser & the dude from the movie Pauly about the parrot?

Speaking of Doogie Howser, another favorite show of mine.

But there really is too much reality crap on now a days. Yeah they'll probably have a couple of cheap crap sitcoms to fill Friends & Fraiser that probably won't even last the whole year.

PreMier as for going out or staying at home watching tv, I enjoy both of them. Sometimes I have friends over or I go to someone's house or apartment & we just hang out & watch tv or a football game or hockey game.

Well cappo5150 at the time I was 14 in grade 8 so there. I'm 26.5yrs old now.

Crono1000 I agree, it got better as they got older in Boy Meets World. & Family always makes my lady & I laugh. For awhile I wasn't sure if they were coming back or not.

& can't forget the Simpsons even though it looks like they're starting to run out of ideas. I personally think it's time to let the kid hit their early teens & see what troulbe happens.

Anyone watch Without A Trace by Jerry Bruckheimer? I usually have to tape it on Thursday evenings either I'm out or asleep if I have an early day.

PreMier I was agreeing with Vieope that Scrubs was great.

After a long, mentally exhausting day of researching and interpreting U.S. Export Regulations (its been the DEA regs for 2 days now)... I need the evenings to veg and do something mindless like watch TV.

My favorite shows are the 2 CSI ones and the 3 Law & Order ones. I heard the Law & Order ones have been picked up for another season and that they are working on a new one.

Don't watch much else except Charmed and shows on HGTV.

CourtQueen the last few weeks I've been getting new episodes of Angel on Fox in my area which carries the WB. & Buffy was cool to.

butterfly I like the CSI's, did you know they're making a CSI New York? & the Law & Orders are good to. I'm sure you'd like Third Watch it's amazing. As for some days just veging, I hear ya.

I'm biased about TV and TV sit-coms in general because I don't like them. They insult the audience, and assume they are less intelligent than they (we) are.

The only sit-coms I've ever watched were "Three's Company," and "Seinfeld," but never on a regular basis. Only if I was home with nothing else to do, would I flip it on.

I honestly now watch less than 5 minutes of TV per day.

    Even the news stinks.

Burner02, I'm glad you agree. But no matter how stupid some sitcoms are, they make me laugh.

Another amazing show I forgot about was Married With Childeren. I loved that show, it always cracked me up every episode. Did you know that Ed O'Neil (Al Bundy) was a running back for the Pittsburg Steelers?
