I doubt there would be the outrage we`ve seen if the US didn`t use humanitarian rights as a way to get both support amoungst themselves, as well as support from those countries in the Coalition when initially going in.
I believe in our rights but I am not sure war is a good thing to shove in our faces everyday.
I didn't feel this way until this whole Iraqi abuse "scandal" came up.
I am sure I will get flamed for this but whatever. I don't care what happened to those people. It doesn't cause any emotion in me. However, seeing the beheading of one of ours in response to the Iraqi abuse pisses me off. In war, nothing is fair. Screw Geneva convention. Since when has any other country treated our people with humanity? This isn't brand new. It just happens to be the first time it caused this commotion. Iraq wasn't the beginning of prisoner "abuse".
You can sit here with your mindset of how humanely you would treat a prisoner. But get put into our military's environment for months on end and that will probably change. True, some people can stay the same throughout, but not everyone is like that.
It seems the majority of the people in my environment say we should just drop a bomb. I don't think they would have a problem with violating some prisoners. This current uproar about the abuse is out of hand. The media needs to back off and let war runs its course.

There are a lot of unusual circumstances surrounding Nick Berg. I don't think he was just a "civilian."
I'm not saying he should have parted ways with head, though.
Berg got his 15 mintues of fame--I am bored with him already.

One other thing re media I've rolled my eyes at more than once is the uproar the US made over pictures of dead soldiers being shown on Iraqi web sites when this began.......yet who then rushed to parade around the dead bodies of Sadams sons?? And who is now plastering the world with images of dead and beaten Iragis??

Media gone too far?
you bet'cha!
Nope not at all
You can sugar-coat the war all you want
but i think its best
to show the people whats really going on
screw censoring...
I don't believe in censorship either but we all know war is war. It ain't pretty. Some people can't deal with the reality.
I just get tired of seeing Iraq every day. And maybe it is just me, but 99% of every bit of news is negative. They don't find the Iraqis that are glad Saddam is gone. The ones that can practice the religion they want. The ones that don't have a curfew.
The media plays politics too.

There are good things going on over there as well. You have to wonder why people are not told about them?
Easy answer. The media WANTS the US to fail in Iraq.
You got that right Stickboy. It's funny, I was all upset that the media was so blood thirsty over a few killers getting embarrassed but they said nothing about one of our own getting his head cut off. I was also upset that there weren't any Muslim media outlets showing outrage over the incident, then I did some more research. There's TONS of print out there from Muslim based sources that are calling for the capture and punishment of the Nick Berg executioners, funny how there still isn't the same loud voice from American media. Funny in a very sarcastic sort of way.Originally posted by Stickboy

Rules? You mean we have RULES for that???
ALBOB,
We brothers in blue have to stick together.
The US media is so anti-Bush I'm amazed more cannot see it.
For every one bad thing going on in Iraq there are two good things. Unfortunately, about half of Americans couldn't give a shit.
Yeah, I see the anti republican stance and it gets to me too. Kerry really aggravates me on top of that.
CNN is on all the channels at work so that is where I get my news from.
"Fear profits man nothing."
I think it is a just a plan fact that US news programs don't report "good" news. A simple fact that the media knows what keeps people glued to the tube........the negitive, the ugly. Why spend precious time reporting "good" story items when it might cause the viewers to switch channels to find more dirt.Originally posted by Stickboy

The media is responding to our (Americans as a whole) need for the dirt.
Good stories always seem to feel like a token story whenever I see them. I don't watch the news much anymore.

I know that's what pissed me off about the whole situation, just the fact that they were supposed to go over their to stop that kind of crap from happening, not adding to it. I know (hope) it's an isolated incident and that more good than bad is happening out of the whole Iraq issue, but it's still shitty to see.
