Shirt and tie? When I met my boss I had on a tank top, shorts and flip-flops.
I would go with a buttoned collared shirt, no tie and slacks. That's just my opinion.
I have an interview at a Personal Training studio. I've interviewed a million times for IT jobs, but never PT'ing. What would you guys wear? I'm thinking I should just play it safe and do the shirt and tie thing as I would with tech interviews. Any thoughts???

I would ALWAYS wear shirt and tie to an interview! Whether it's that kind of environment or not it still makes a professional impression that your willing to take the time to look presentable for your interview, that may spill over in your work ethic. Good luck buddy!
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain...
Thanks guys!![]()

First you need to go to nyc then you may think about a job interview.
Why? I'm getting certified in Boston next weekend

Do you know that you can take it online?

I don't know, this is a tuff one.
I would say you could wear a polo shirt and nice work-out pants (not sweats) I mean the vinyl Nike type with the stripes.
If you went in a suit I think that would be way over dressed, a tank-top and shorts a bit under dressed, you could get away with that if you were a pro bodybuilder though.
I agree with Robert ... I've always been told to dress for an interview what you think or know the work environment to be.

Where is it at? You may have to put someone thru a workout, so I would nix the shirt and tie idea.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.

You have been given some good advice so I won't add to that. But I do want to wish you good luck on your interview![]()

I'd go the shirt and tie route for the interview. Being a little over dressed for the occasion is much better than being under dressed. Also, I'd bring along a set of workout cloths just in case they do want to see you train somebody. If that situation comes up, your preparedness will impress them.![]()
Rules? You mean we have RULES for that???
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I actually asked him if I should dress to "interview or train"...his response was that we would just be talking. So, I'm still at a loss. I'm thinking it's better to be overdressed (showing commitment and effort) rather than underdressed.

I don't know, I think that being over dressed can also be a negative.Originally Posted by ALBOB

How so? Makes you seem overly eager? Too stuffy? Just curious

One interpertation might be that the interviewer may think that you don't have a firm grasp on what is required as a personal trainer.
Albob's suggestion is a good one if you do decide to go the suit/tie route.

well, if you went to this PT job interview in a 3 piece suit it makes it look like you're at the wrong job. You should dress accordingly IMO.Originally Posted by Var
Polo shirt and khakis. That woudn't be too "overdressed" if it turns out that workout gear would be more appropriate.
Ok...I think I'm going to go with khakis and either a polo or button down shirt. No tie. Thanks again for all the feedback.![]()

Get a polo shirt with a supplement logo on it, preferably one that they push there. Maybe it will show your familiarity with those products and give you an advantage.

Its a "high end" PT studio. I'm not sure what supps they push, if any

I would go with a white button down shirt (no tie) and Khaki pants.
I would still go with a polo v. a button down shirt. A button down shirt would be more appropriate if you were going for a management position. A polo is a bit more casual, yet still professional.
I think I'm with you on that aggie.![]()
