ok
well here's how it is
My friend is a very good guitarist
and he has a band, and i know the whole band
And my friend, His name is Michael, gave me a burned cd
Of him playing guitar for 4 minutes
a bunch of diff riff's
Its all him
except for the drum in the background
And i think its really sweet
so i wanted to put it up here for people to d/l and listen to
to get feedback from everyday people that dont know us
But i dont want some body to think it's really great and then steal it
since its not copyrighted
So should i just put it up for d/l
or wait till its copyrighted?

have him mail it to himself, but don't open it when it returns the date stamp will prove he originated it. It will stand until he copyrights it.
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

wow it figures you would know this

GREAT Guitarist are a dime a dozen so I don't think someone is going to rip it off. With that in mind, unless he's trying to be a pure guitar god, such as Malmsteen, Vai, Satriani etc. then his style most likely is going to be his own. So, do what Mani said and it should be fine!![]()
strange advice...but good i guess i save that
How does the date stamp get on the CD? Couldn't I just mail myself an empty CD case in an envelope and then claim someone else's music to be mine? Wouldn't the proof beon the date stamp?Originally Posted by maniclion

That's why you keep the envelope sealed, until the time is needed to take it to a court where a judge would witness the unsealing. If he's that paranoid send it to an attorney and have them lock the sealed envelope in their office. He could take it one step further and use the wax seal that breaks when opened. Like David said though if he has his own style it shouldn't matter if someone cops his stuff, and if he's really good then he can come up with a million riffs of which only a select few would be of any value. When it comes to real creative talent a large percentage of the material created is disposable or not recognized immediately. Just imagine how many hours Jimi Hendrix sat around alone freestyling unrecorded, I mean hours of brilliant sounds never to be heard again. I have a tape of him doing just that and he had some amazing things I never heard before.Originally Posted by Dale Mabry

As a guitarist myself I dont really see what there is to "steal" from a guitar solo. Unless your friend is a pioneer and coming out with a radical new style like Yngwie did with the neo-classical and Dimebag did with the mid scoops and Eddie did with the finger tapping, there is really nothing to "steal".Originally Posted by myCATpowerlifts
And even if he copyrighted it, hell all of us guitar players feed off a good phrase or passage and incorporate that in our playing if it hits us that well. Ive incorporated a lot or Randy Rhoads, Eddie, and Yngwie in my style.
Im saying this because there really is only a few notes in the whole scale, they've all been played before. So unless he's carting new territory, its probably something we've all heard before, albeit very very good if you are that impressed. I for one would like to hear it.
UNLESS OF COURSE, you're implying that maybe someone could take it and put the whole thing on one of their songs and say its them, yeah that I could see happening. But it would take a fool to try that if he couldnt duplicate it live. And if someone is good enough to duolicate it live, he's good enough to just pattern his own solo after it or just do it himself note for note without having to snatch it from here.
Does this make any sense? Ive played live for people on the net many times, usually on yahoo, and its never happened to me. But it would suck if it happened to your friend.
What style does he play? Im imagining metal or jazz if he still does solos. Ive been told I have a style similar to Zakk Wylde. I dont like hearing that because all of us want to have our own style, but hey, what are ya gonna do. Once again Id love to hear it

Heres a good example, I just heard a song from the Beastie Boys new CD and I kept swearing I'd heard the beat somewhere, then it dawned on me it had pieces of Hendrix mixed into it, probably subliminally. I mean alot of what we "create" is just re-mixes of things we've perceived in our lives, so to be honest no one is purely original.

Ive been here bro, just not as often cause we've been working a lot of overtime. So far this month alone its 17 days straight. Also I dont do a lot of posting here cause there's so many knowledgeable people here and I spend most of my time reading THEIR posts. Im literaly blown away by how many trainers and realy hardcore lifters come here. I feel like a little squirrel in a big gym looking for a protein bar.Originally Posted by myCATpowerlifts

No, you probably DID hear Hendrix. The Beastie Boys are not a real band, they sample most of their music or have others write it. They got really popular in the early 80s with their song "Right to Party" or some such thing. Then the metal stations started playing them because Slayer's Kerry King played the solo on it. When I talked to Kerry about it he stated that they werent a real band or musicians. But they were fun to party with, lol.Originally Posted by maniclion
