Help needed - anyone from CT who can help?

Does anyone know the owners of the new PTN Fitness in Hamden, CT?

Here's the deal - I want to ride my bike to work. BUT, I need a place to shower. This gym/personal training studio opened up across the street from my office. When I went over there to ask if I could shower there (not for free, mind you) they said "NO."

If anyone knows them, pm me, PLEASE!

Not only is the very unfriendly...it's bad business. Don't they realize that whenever you work in an office...there are other people there? Wouldn't they rather you go to work at your office and say what a great new place it is instead of what a bunch of *^&$#@)%$#@ they are?

Hope it works out for you!

This post is for mtnbikerchk. In response to your post, to be frank. You are way off base. You were also very rude on the phone when we took the time to return your call. We are a licensed health club, I have been in this business for a long time at many different levels. I have never heard of a gym anywhere who would be willing to allow a non member to use the showers. Further more my insurance company would be very upset to know that an individual who has not signed a contract or a waiver is using our showers. This is how insurance set-ups start, you know "i slipped in the shower, and Ben said I could use it" So now I am responsible for that, but I don't know you and you are not a member. So far it isn't a money issue, but here is where that changes. We have 2 shower/change rooms which are used by our members. Am I honestly supposed to ask them to wait longer because a non member is in the shower. Think about that from my point of view. We own this business and I won't have unhappy members. I'm sorry but they have to come first. If you were giving professional advice to a client you would advise them to not allow a non member facility privledges. And as a business owner I would have to be a fool to do so. If you call Gold's gym and ask them if you can shower there with no membership, they will laugh at you. They most likely wouldn't even take the time to explain themselves. We are in business to make money while offering excellent service to our people. I wonder if this makes you view this subject differently. Feel free to call me if you would like.

ptnfitness, if she signed a liability waiver and paid you to use your showers that is not okay?

It would be Ok legally, but it wouldn't solve the full members waiting for our only 2 showers, and that I can't have.

What makes you think that you have so many members that they will haev to wait for the showers? My gym has a HUGE shower area, and I rarely see a member go into it. If you only have 2 showers, that leads me to believe your a small gym, hence even fewer members than mine showering.

You made a good arguement at first, but if she paid for a partial membership and signed a waiver, I dont see a problem. She is going to mention this in an office FULL of people, and you will have bad publicity. This is not a sound business decision IMO.

This will be ptnfitness's last post on this subject. In response to Premier, we operate a high end fitness center for the purpose of specialized training and a home for our members once done with P.T. Our members average age is 43, most gyms are 25. 25 year olds don't use the showers, 50 year old professionals do however. To be brutally honest I have no interest in a partial membership. Nor do I have any interest in 1 extra body using our showers. We are not a typical gym and shouldn't be compared to one.
Whats funny is the clear line drawn between business owners and non business owners and this is evident in the fact that all the business owners(current and former) agree with me. I wonder why that is? I only posted a response to let everyone know that we weren't just saying no because we could. This was a thought out decision, and one that is safest for our business. If you understand that, then further discussion is pointless. Thanks to every one who does truly understand.

So, ptnfitness, let me get this straight:

MtnBikerChk came to your place of business and asked if there was a way she could use your showers. Note that she was not asking to use them for free, she was not asking to use them without a membership, and she was not trying to get around signing a waiver. She just asked you a question.

So instead of trying to be helpful, or trying to be nice, you just flatly say no. And judging from your attitude here, I doubt you said it politely.

So MtnBikerChk asks some friends on an internet message board if they have any helpful advice, since you were completely unhelpful, and without much ado, the subject drops.

Now, more than a month later, you hunt her down on the internet, whine about the fact that you had to return a phone call (gasp), accuse her of trying to scam your insurance company, and make blanket generalizations about how business owners should agree with you.

Well, as a corporate president, I don't agree with you. You are of course perfectly within your rights to say no. However your attitude is poor at best. The fact that you chose to represent your business on the internet by stalking and flaming someone who asked you for a simple favor is bordering on ridiculous.

But of course you took one of the famous internet cop-outs, and said "this will be my last post on the subject". Be sure and treat all your customers and potential customers like you treated MtnBikerChk, that should be great for the future of your business

Hi everyone, what a interesting little discussion. PTN, maybe you should have taken her money for a shower, no biggie, but your decision makes sense. It is your business and money invested. Premier, you didn't spell "have" correctly. That doesn't make you look great. Echo, invest some of your own money in a business, then you can comment. And lastly, crono1000......I love your little pictures....lol

What the hell is this..."shower", and why would you ever need to use it?

You sir must have me confused with Var. I'm up to the green, fuzzy dumbells. He's the one who's still on the pink ones.

Ha, even lamer than the "This is my last post on the subject" post is the "asswipe english major" post

Oh and in response to Mr. English Major's comment about "investing my own money"... apparently you've never started a corporation.
