I have a guy friend who has been trying to get me interested in cross country skiing but the damn wind chill up here is painful. it is tempting all except the cold factor.

Get used to it man. As a trainer you will be working every weekend pretty much. I worked this morning (only 3 clinets today because it is the summer. Usually 7-8 in season on a sat.) and I have 5 tomorrow starting at 9am. It sucks but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

I do tech support for a pharmacy chain. Basically, I talk the least technical people on Earth through fixing technical problems. Good times!

I should be starting at the studio soon, but it'll only be part time until things pick up. The owner said that July is the slowest month of the year. I cant wait to get the hell outta this place.

Thats exactly what I've been doing! Got any good books to recommend? I'm getting very interested in strength training. May go that route with my carreer someday if possible, but I'm guessing that wont apply to 99% of my clients now.

Wrong, the basics of strength training will apply greatly to all of your clinets!! That is what people need more than anything...to build a level of functional strength and conditioning. You just have to be smart about how you approach each person as they are not all alike and how you write a program to allow for periodization.

    favorite books of mine:
    Super Squats- Randell Strossen
    Beyond Braun- Stuart McRoberts
    Dinasour Training- Bruce Kubik
MILO strength Journal (avaliable at Ironmind.com as are the other books)
Do a google search for Dr. Ken Leistner. Dr. Ken is one of my altime favorite wirters on strength training. He is highly published (MILO, Ironman magazine, powlifting USA, etc....) and is quoted in all of the above books numerous times.
Just stick to the basics (squat, deadlift, overhead press, pullups, bench press) and you can help people achieve their goals.

Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

I was talking more about advanced strength training like you'd use to train an athlete, as opposed to someone just trying to build a foundation and get into shape after being sedentary.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll def check them out!
