    killing Greek Dogs

apparently the people who are running the Olympicshow over in Greece have taken to ridding the street of the homeless. This is so that the film crews covering the olympics don't see the riff raff. The dogs especially have been taking a beating: 80 or more are killed each night. seems that someone is leaving ethylene glycol and other products out for the dogs to drink. and then die a horrible lingering painful death- it ain't pretty to watch. stray cats and dogs are falling left and right over there.

so that the networks get their picture of their favorite vista, unencumbered by some stray dog or cat.

    nice...

these specific greeks ( not talking about greekyblondechick) are nothing if not pragmatic ....

    Got a link???

I'm all for killing the homeless, but dogs and cats?...thats just barbaric!!!
But when you disarm them, you at once offend them by showing that you distrust them, either for cowardice or for want of loyalty, and either of these opinions breeds hatred against you.

Lol, read this along with the pollution problems in Athens. When I was there, it was pretty bad... but what do you expect when 70% of a countries population lives in one city?

yup, as for the lingering death; it's either horrible to watch or exciting, depending on your particular preference for entertainment. it ( EG ) has a somewhat sweet taste so this is the preferred method of dog disposal for hill billies wishing to dispose of the neighbour's howling dog.

the locals did this to Rufus when in fact, they should have put thalium in the freaking owners coke bottles...!!! Rufus died a long slow painful death- some idjit actually videotaped it, for his viewing pleasure....

anyway, europeans in general have a laissez faire attitude towards dogs and cats; there is dog shit everywhere and all over the sidewalks. no one picks it up. it's astounding!

When I was in Puerto Rico they had no humane society, one of the 1st things I remember seeing that was so different from the U.S. was dead dogs on the highway on the way to our hotel. Every night after supper we'd go feed these heartbreaking strays. One citizen, in a misguided attempt to be kind, put out meat with ground glass in it to "end the suffering" of some of the dogs.

I have nothing against Greece, but at this point in time, it's not the ideal site for the Olympics.

So... Should the place with the most "ideal" location or the place with the most "ideal" facilities get the Olympics?
If this were the case, then they would be held in the same place year round, or untill a country built a better venue.

I don't mean that the Olympics should be held in the same place every year, but I was just talking about this on the way to the airport with my dad earlier this afternoon. Greece is having all sorts of problems with facilities and it's prime for a terrorist attack. China is going to be pretty bad too.

I have no clue where it should be held. I dunno. The Sydney games went fairly well. As for a terrorist attack, It would be "more significant" because the Olympics started in Athens.

Well, its not like the terrorists will ever go away. Do you think that the Olympics should NEVER be held there again?

No, I just mean that with 9/11 being so recent and with all the crap going on right now, that it would have been better if Greece had been awarded the games at a different time. However, the voting is done way in advance and something like that is certainly not forseeable. I'm not saying that Greece was not a good idea, I'm just saying that the timing was unfortunate.

Most countries (all actually) do these things to varyine degrees. In Salt Lake City they took homeless folks to the bus station, and bought them tickets out of town, and fave them a couple dollars.

The Chinese will be doing the same thing, soon.

The Greeks are not very pragmatic at all. I am suprised that Athens was even given the opportunity to host the Olympics.

Well, I don't think that Athens specificly is in a bigger risk of a terrorist attack than if the Olympics were to be held in another city. It's the event in itself that is a target, not Greece specificly IMO. I don't think the historical beginning of the Olympics matter all too much to the terrorists, I think they'd want to strike wherever they would be held. In my opinion we can't really compare it to the Sydney games since the terrorist situation was completely different.
However, Greeks are known to take their time with things I remember when I was in Athens 2002 and they had hardly started building things, they were said to be two years behind schedule or something I love Greece, it's my favorite country in Europe to visit and I think the Greeks and the attitude they have is great
I'm impressed by the extensive security they are working on, they are actually spending twice as much money on security as Sydney did. But who knows if it will be enough. I'm rooting for Greece

munich 1972 - quite apart from the israeli murders - this was a mess before it started.

this was much before your time. there was not as much television coverage back then so what you see as " being picked on" ( quite a statement actually ) could be a function of wider coverage in general.

we, as a society as no longer at ease with our conscience with believing what the government/vested interest groups have to tell us.

Its called cause and effect. you have only noted the effect , relegating the cause to the sidelines if not discarding it entirely. it would have helped had the people in charge ( not the entire greek country ) started much earlier and not given contracts to friends and relatives. most of the Greek people understand that whatever needs to be done will be done, maybe not on time exactly but in time.

Maybe this is just their way of giving the Korean delegation a warm welcome.

    http://www.actionagainstpoisoning.co...uk/greece.html

this has apparently being going on for over a year so the total may be close to 20 000 dogs over the last 2 years.

a couple of pics at the start of the article aren't pleasant to look at. nor is the statement that garbage collectors toss live dogs into the back of the garbage trucks.

they gave the olympics to one of the most overpopulated, and one of the most polluted places in the world ( don't go venturing out during mid day without a gas mask ). it's all about money.
