That's why you gotta de-claw, de-fang, & just plain old labotomize the bastards. I speak from experience. (My girl's got some nice scars from years of "playing" with her little psycho.)

I like animals but I don't want to own any more. We now have 1 dalmation and 1 King Shephard/Husky, when they go that's it. I can travel all I want without having to worry who will look after my animals while I'm away.

There was a time when my children were smaller we had 2 cats, 2 birds and 1 dog. What a madhouse, but you know we never saw a lot of fighting, now with less animals we fight all the time. Go figure...

Jo-Anna, could you recommend a good, quiet, smallish breed of dog? My fiance & I both work all day long, but she desperately wants one. We were thinking of getting a beagle but after some research we figured they're too rambunctious (and loud) to be left alone all day. Help, please!?!?!?!?

Max - If I had to pick another house dog. I would pick one mixed with a poodle. They don't shed so much. If you don't mind the shedding, you have lots of choice. Personally I my preference is If you don't mind the shedding, you have lots of choice. Personally I my preference is Pickaneze(not sure of the spelling), American Boxers, Lassa-poo, Cocker Spanials (I had one they are great), Pugs, Shitzu’s (They don’t shed either). Beagles bark all the time and can’t control their blatters. I’m not sure what I would end up with, I kept a dog for a friend and I really liked it too, it was a mix between a Lab and a Border Collie, she was all light caramel with a bit of white on her paws, so pretty and smart. I have always been partial to German Shepherds because I was raised with them. I owned one that I brought up from birth because the mother died. She could read me like a book. If I had any intentions of taking her anywhere like for walks or car rides, she knew where her leash was and she would go pull it out of the drawer. She knew how to open it and take her leash out of there without dragging anything else out of that drawer. She was so good. The only reason I let her go was because she would have more room on the farm and I was moving into an apartment. That would not have been fair to her. I went to see her at the farm but after a while the owner didn’t like us visiting any more. He was very antisocial. I think it hurt her too and of course I was very hurt that I couldn’t afford a house to keep her with me.

That's all I can think of right now... if I think of anything more I'll let you know...

We were thinking about a cocker spaniel, but heard they're not too intelligent as a breed. But, maybe now we'll give it a shot. Don't really care about shedding (wife-to-be's responsibility ), and they are pretty cute.

Someday we'll get a bigger dog. I've wanted a German shepherd or golden retriever since I was little. But while we're stuck in a little apartment we'll stick with a little dog. Plus this way my fiance can actually walk the dog, instead of the other way round. (She's little too.)

Thank you very much for all the info! If you want, I'll send you pics of the little mutt. (when we finally pick one out)

Our new baby attacks with no claws he is very gentle. Max sometimes cocker spaniels can get yeast infections in their ears and my parents spent a fortune to no avail trying to cure Abby's plus she had to have her hair cut on a regular basis, it's a breed that takes a lot of care. Her ears were smelly and it made the house smelly. They had to constantly change her diet and so on too to try and find the cause.... A short haired breed is easier to care for but whatever you decide I hope you consider going to a shelter 1st to adopt a stray.

My girl will worship this dog (both emotionally & financially), so proper care won't be a problem. And yeah, we're definitely getting one from a shelter.
