    NASA Launches Spacecraft to Mercury

    http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...ry_messenger_7

Well it'll reach Mercury in 2011 & will stay for a full year more collecting information & data protected by the sun.

700 degree's worth of sun up there unreal. They used a special custom built
ceramic fabric sunshade that will protect the craft.

I always find these subjects interesting.

    Cool!

The spacecraft cannot fly straight to Mercury; it does not carry nearly enough fuel. So it will fly once past Earth, twice past Venus and three times past Mercury for gravity assists — and make 15 loops around the sun — before slowing enough to slip into orbit around the small, hot planet.

That's correct just as the news states.

It's to bad it can't fly directly into the planet. Oh well.

At least they're making a trip out there.

Yeah I know it was a joke, but you can figure out what I meant.

I meant fly into the planet's atmosphere & land on the planet.

Funny thing is we dont know jack about Mercury. We'll shortly know more about Saturn then Mercury. And its the rocky inner planets that can tell us most about the formation of the solar system and the possability of life elsewhere. If there is one date I remember more then any other its 20 Jul 1969 when Neil Armstrong walked on the moon. Man you should have felt what a feeling that was seeing an American walk on the moon. That really was the foundation of the pride in my people/country. How bout that NASA eh?

I pray I get to see Americans walking on Mars before I croak............take care...........Rich
