Yes I installed it. Adware found nothing.
I really don´t think that you can get a spyware just by clicking in a link.
Im pretty sure I read it somewhere. I will have to look for it.

I am not saying that it is impossible but it is quite complicated. Even with javascript enabled and the usual IE flaws I still don´t think so.
Do you use XP ? Service Pack 2 will be soon available. I guess it is already distributed but not for everyone.
btw how was your day?
If you install download programs like Kazaa, limewire, etc, you will find spyware attached to it. Is this version SE better than the 6.0 version of adware?
At home I use Win 98 SE. My work is only Win 2000 compatible, and I dont see the point in upgrading to 2000. Once they support XP then I will upgrade.
Day was fine, same routine. I did go out to lunch with my Grandmother though. It was nice to get out, and talk to her for a bit.

Yes, it is better. Its finding files that 6.0 could not. If you arent happy with it, then just re-download 6.0.Originally Posted by cappo5150

Today was good and that is it.![]()
(n.) Any software that covertly gathers user information through the user's Internet connection without his or her knowledge, usually for advertising purposes. Spyware applications are typically bundled as a hidden component of freeware or shareware programs that can be downloaded from the Internet; however, it should be noted that the majority of shareware and freeware applications do not come with spyware. Once installed, the spyware monitors user activity on the Internet and transmits that information in the background to someone else. Spyware can also gather information about e-mail addresses and even passwords and credit card numbers.
Spyware is similar to a Trojan horse in that users unwittingly install the product when they install something else. A common way to become a victim of spyware is to download certain peer-to-peer file swapping products that are available today.
Aside from the questions of ethics and privacy, spyware steals from the user by using the computer's memory resources and also by eating bandwidth as it sends information back to the spyware's home base via the user's Internet connection. Because spyware is using memory and system resources, the applications running in the background can lead to system crashes or general system instability.
Because spyware exists as independent executable programs, they have the ability to monitor keystrokes, scan files on the hard drive, snoop other applications, such as chat programs or word processors, install other spyware programs, read cookies, change the default home page on the Web browser, consistently relaying this information back to the spyware author who will either use it for advertising/marketing purposes or sell the information to another party.
Licensing agreements that accompany software downloads sometimes warn the user that a spyware program will be installed along with the requested software, but the licensing agreements may not always be read completely because the notice of a spyware installation is often couched in obtuse, hard-to-read legal disclaimers.

Doesn´t say anything about clicling a link.![]()
I know. When you click a link, often times it is to download something. I guess this is what I meant![]()

Ive gotten Trojan Viruses *Attemping* to install on my computer while clicking a site link. Luckily Grisoft anti virus caught them(Happened like 6 times in 5 minutes, lol) I guess they were using a fairly well known exploit.Originally Posted by Vieope
That aside, most of the time sites will use tracking cookies; which are automatically downloaded to your computer. Granted, I dont know what role they play, or how they work, but AdAware detects and removes them, thats ussually 90% of what I have.
you can get spyware just from cliking on a link thers a function in javascript and vbscript called putproperty or something like that which allows you to create dll files on ppls local disk, when some one loads the target page the dll is loaded onto ther computer and linked into the registry under the windows startup key.
