    fat co-workers

the people i work with crack me up. on their breaks they will be eating like 2 bags of doritos, a couple of pop tarts, a few kit kats, some honey buns, etc. 1 guy even brings a 2 liter of coke to work and drinks it straight from the bottle. why do people eat like this constantly? do they not know this is why they are fat? does this describe your work setting also?

My work setting is not all that bad. There is only one overweight person and she is happy with the way she is, plus she is cool with being who she is. On the other hand, my bus ride to work is quite the adventure. Watching a person equivalent in sizde to 2 people try to squeeze their ass into a seat meant for 1 person. Overweight people not yielding seats to seniors, etc. I don't think it is the food so much as just the general laziness. If a few of these people walked everyday there would be much less of a problem. Keep in mind this is coming from the guy who took the bus 6 blocks, although I was carrying a case of Spanish Peaks Honey Raspberry Ale. Mmmmm Spanish Peaks.....
If sense were common, everyone would have it.

I think that Fat on people is wasted energy and resource.

I think that when the world runs out of fossil fuels, they should get all of the fat people in huge gyms and force them to work out and hook up all of the cardio equipment to generators, problem solved. They turn their fat into power woohoo

We have many women/men at work who are overweight. I don't know what their story is, but I see many at lunch hour coming up the escalator with big styrofoam packages of grease. Don't they get it ... when you hear them getting off the escalator (yep, just stepping forward) and you can hear them breathing hard that maybe they should be doing something?

We recently lost a woman at work (to natural causes apparently). She was a large women. It was sad because she was such a great person. I didn't know her well enough to know about how she felt about her weight, but I kind of suspect her weight had some of impact to her sudden death.

i got this buddy at work who is about 5'8" 130lbs. i mean we are talking ecto freak here. all he eats is big macs, wendys, krystals, shit like that constantly and he cant gain an ounce. he worked his ass off last year, was working out, taking weightgainers out the ass and was ripped for a while but as soon as he stopped, he lost everything. i have never seen someone with a metabolism as high as his. its just too hard for him to keep his mass.

a lot of people don't understand that there is no such thing as dying of natural causes even though the term is used in the medical profession. there is always an underlying reason for sudden death...

from what I have read eventually we will find that this occurs when peoples diets are completely devoid of certain vitamins and minerals and of course genetic factors...

If it's in the Open Chat forum, it's fair game.

Although, the "department of health" post was actually true.

Where I work they encourage the gym.

We have a gym in quite a few of our office buildings with very nice equipment. The price is great too $8.00 per month no starting fee, all they request is that you sign up for a year minimum. At that price you can’t go wrong! The facilities are all very well kept and we even have lockers and showers. I think it’s great!! If you have the time you can always workout because it’s available 24/7.

But you're in Canada, just walking around outside (frozen tundra) is a major workout. Why would you even need a gym?

I did believe it to be true. Its just that that whole statement came accross as comical, not to mention the accompanying mental image.

LAM, I was one of them. Fast, tasty, convenient and ABUNDANT. That was what I used to go for. I ate a wendy's spicy chicken sandwich and biggie fries for lunch almost every day. I had mcdonald's and burger king for breakfasta few times a week. Dinner? Pizza (and not just a slice or two), big heavy pasta dishes wiht the works, big greasy cuban dinners at 10 PM, washed down with vanilla coke.

And the snacking. Oh my god. I used to eat candy bars like it was going out of style. I think I single-handedly kept that vending machine at my company in business.

ONe day something clicked. And I just stopped. I made the effort to clean up my body, inside and out, and I swear I can't imagine eating most of that stuff now. A treat now and then... a bite size snickers, or a piece of cake at a birthday party (though not right now because i'm in the middle of a training program).

Everyone at work who still eats CRAZY the way I used to eat (and worse) always say, "Oh my god! You've lost so much weight! How did you do it? Wow..." And when I say something like, "I stopped eating at wendy's and I started working out..." you know, they give me faces... like it's too much work to change THAT much.

ANd it was, at first. I try to explain that to them, that at first it takes some getting used to, until it becomes second nature to just MAKE the time in your life to take care of yourself. But no... There they go, across the street... and htey come back with big, greasy wendy's bags, and grande mocha-frapuccino-fiascos from Starbucks and stuff.

    Oh well...

Like you said: only a small percentage of us are willing...

We have a workout room in my building as well. We have abotu 500 employees in our Miami location, and i'd say about 10 of them use that gym. Sad. I would love to get some "wellness initiative" going but most people in my company (a very traditional engineering firm) won't even notice.

I used to work with this pig who would dip his donuts into his coffee and lose part of 'em in the drink. Then he'd be swearing to himself how he lost 1/4 of the donut! The whole time I'd be thinking: "Nevermind the damn thing, you have 5 more in front of you!!"

I work for DOLE (pineapple, bananas), they push healthy living on us so much its sickening. They took out all the good food in the cafeteria and replaced it with crappy soy products. And they try to get you to work out in the gym thats in the building, it sux, its more for begginers, the heaviest dumbells are 25lbs. The owner is such a health freak that he calls out the fat people in front of everybody during meetings and xmas parties. Theres maybe about 5 morbidly obese people at work.

One of my friends eats a large doner kebab and fries........everday of the week except Sunday since he moved out of mum's, that was a year ago.

He must have put on at least 40lbs in that time. He really doesn't give a sh*t. You go around his apartment and the kitchen floor is just covered in the rolled up brown bags that you get at the kebab shop....nice!

And he only drinks coke. His place smells like the kebab shop.
