    anxiety?

I'm just curious, how many here suffer from anxiety? Has this anxiety caused you to have unneccesary medical exams? This is my current situation. My thoughts are filled w/ regrets and what if's. Which, I know, is ridiculous and unhealthy. I'm seriously considering seeing a therapist. Sadly, I'm not 16. I'm 29. Too old to be worrying like this.

I would definetly advise to seek some counseling, it helps. I went throught the same thing. Don't let them put you on any meds though...

I definitely don't want any meds. I was looking through my insurance physician directory. Sadly, I didn't see any therapists listed. I hope it's covered. Thanks.

Yep, been there... started when I was about 29 too, at first it was just frustrating but eventually it progressed to the stage where I was getting frequent and severe panick attacks... seriously no fun... had to go on meds for a while when I felt the panick attacks coming on.
Ultimately the cause for me was having just too darn much on my plate at one time but at that point in my life there was no alternative to lighten my load.
If you feel you might need to see a therapist then I would urge you to do so.
    Good luck.

I'm not totally putting down meds, but these days it seems to be the first thing Dr's do. finding the underlying cause of the depression if it is not caused by a hormonal imbalance is the key...

I know tons of people these days who would rather pop a pill like paxil, etc. then to exercise and eat a healthy diet...which have been proven to be effective by medical study...

Yeah I agree, Docs seem awfully fast to push the pills nowdays. Especially for kids. I agree exercise and good diet, as well as sobriety, has always worked for me. But I dont have 19 medical diplomas on the wall so I suppose a doctor would give better advice.....take care.....Rich

    anxiety sucks, thats for sure.

i used to have pretty bad social anxiety disorder, where i'm get nervous as hell in most social situations. even something as harmless as seeing someone and talking to them would give me that "feeling" that we all know too well. it kinda started cuz i was always so shy and self conscious as a kid. One thing that i kinda still suffer from is the "whole world" syndrome (i'm not sure if thats the exact name, but its something like that). supposedly you're supposed to get over it as go through puberty, but i never did. what it is is that you think the whole world is worrying about you. in other words, you worry (obviously falsely) what everyone else thinks about you, what they'll think about your choices/decisions, what they think about how you look etc. its a pretty shitty feeling, let me tell ya. one thing thats weird is that i notice it a lot in certain social situations. like when i'm at a bar, i care WAY too much what others think. and WHY? there's no reason whatsoever. who gives a fuck, right? but when i get hammered, i could care less. so its almost like alcohol is sort of a short term preventative.

i've had a few panic attacks in my life also, they occured when i used to smoke weed. thats when i new i had to quit. now, weed triggers Pavlov's theory when i even take 1 little hit (the one where certain things trigger responses automatically.......Pavlov's experiment was with the dog, the bell and its salivation).

Social anxiety is a m-f'er. it can make your life miserable. one thing that def. helps is, like mentioned above, a good diet and exercize. a good diet will make sure your body is getting what it needs, while keep you away from anxiety-producers such as alcohol and drugs. meanwhile, there is no better stress reliever than good ooooole exercize.

if you have weird thoughts and seem to always question your choices ("what ifs"), you prob. should see a therapist. often the best way to solve a problem is merely sharing it with someone. i wouldnt jump to the meds yet....

    good luck weight39,

I've always had a mild case of social anxiety. It's never been diagnosed. And occasionally, I'd have health concerns.

Between Feb. and July, I had some 4 x-ray procedures done. 3, of which, were unnecessary. Two were upper gi series. I'm constantly worrying about being exposed to unnecessary radiation in a short period of time. I had these done, ironically enough, to relieve my anxiety.

Dante made some posts on things you could try supplementing with to help, 5-HTP I believe was one of them.

thats cuz the pharmacutical companies run everything nowadays. all those idiotic commercials for prescriptions and what not, thats so bad for society IMO. Drs are waayyy to quick to prescribe meds for sure. It is good in certain situations no question, but there are more than often two sides to whats going on in life, its not always a "hormonal imbalance". We need to look at both nature and nurture imo

I have the same problem, I have a lot more good days than bad now. You have to learn how to control your mind, thankfully mine is not so bad that I get panic attacks or anything like that.

There are many types of anxiety disorders. It seems based on the amount of people posting in this thread that it is pretty common to have experienced one or more. I've had it for years as well. In my opinion mine seemed to be mostly psychological. I would say that I have social anxiety in the sense that I hate being around large crowds of people. Outside of that I have always had anxiety toward traveling. Your sense of mood I would say definitely plays a strong role. If you're going through a depression state, it can definitely trigger your anxiety disorder and amplify it. About 10 years ago or so I was at work and suddenly out of the blue experienced a panic attack for no known reason that I could think of. I felt like I couldn't breath and thought I was going to die. I was rushed to the doctor and was diagnosed with a panic attack and was prescribed xanex. Fortunately I've never experienced that again, but I still have phobias toward traveling, which I feel is tied to an anxiety disorder. I had a girlfriend once who had frequent panic attacks and took xanax like candy. Anxiety disorders can definitely be pretty serious.

I think I am on the opposite side of this spectrum. Nothing worries me and I am extremely mild tempered. Can I take some meds that will piss me off and send me into fits of rage? It might be good for me.

I have had something very similar to what you are describing, obsessive worrying and anxiety. I DID see a therapist who recommended Zoloft, which hepled me TREMENDOUSLY. It is NOT a happy pill, you feel normal just are able to keep things in perspective and think more clearly. I realized I was unhappy with my life and marriage and left... got my own place, got divorced, meet the love of my life and could NOT be happier. I am not taking any meds and haven't for a while now.. BUT I would take them again if I felt as bad as I did before.... I hope you seek help, life is too short and fleeting to live in fear or unhappiness. Good luck and PM me if you have any questions.

I have "mild" OCD/Anxiety. Doc's are definitely too eager to prescribe meds, but it definitely helped me. It really depends on the individual. If its a chemical problem, meds can be the only solution. Good luck!

Funny that you mention OCD. I used to have to do everything in even numbers, an even number of steps, if I touched something I had to touch it with the other hand, it was annoying if I didn't fullfill those "requirements."

isnt it weird, mudge? you just get this, well i guess you call it "compulsion" to do weird shit, and you don't know why. alls you know is that you don't feel right unless you do it.

My OCD was always a joke with friends and family. Then, during PCT after a One+ cycle, I lost my mind. It got so bad that it OWNED me until I got on meds. Scary shit! I've always been pretty even tempered, but I was close to losing it.

Anyone here have to check their stove 6 times to make sure its off??? Not fun!

Jesus! I can say to some friends that once in a while I get depressed but my OCD, I donīt know why I keep it to myself. I have the exact same thing with numbers. It takes a lot of time and I worry if anybody notice it. Good thing is that with all these mental issues I became gifted when younger then women entered my life and I became stupid again.

Kinda cool we can talk about it like this. There was a time when folks, most of all guys, were to ashamed to discuss it or to get help. I have personally known 5, at least 5, coppers who've killed themselves due to psychological problems. Such conditions can be fatal and are no laughing matter.

Just because someone hasnt had it yet doesnt mean they never will. Its no more shameful then having headaches or cutting your finger..take care.....................Rich
