Oprah gives each of her audience a car

Oprah Winfrey celebrated the premiere of her 19th season by surprising each of her 276 audience members with a new car. Making sure the audience was kept in suspense, Winfrey opened the show by calling 11 people onto the stage. She gave each of them a car — a Pontiac G6.

She then had gift boxes distributed to the rest of the audience and said one of the boxes contained keys to a 12th car. But when everyone opened the boxes, each had a set of keys.

"Everybody gets a car! Everybody gets a car! Everybody gets a car!" Winfrey yelled as she jumped up and down on the stage.

The audience screamed, cried and hugged each other — then followed Winfrey out to the parking lot of her Harpo Studios to see their Pontiacs, all decorated with giant red bows.

The cars, which retail for $28,000, were donated by Pontiac.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am kicking myself for not being there to get one too .
Can you believe the generosity.. wow! Nice lady.

Chuck Norris once lost his keys and couldn't remember where he put them. So he tortured himself for half an hour until he gave up their location.

Oprah or opera?

"We are like tenant farmers chopping down the fence around our house for fuel when we should be using Natures inexhaustible sources of energy — sun, wind and tide. ... I'd put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don't have to wait until oil and coal run out before we tackle that."
Thomas Edison: In conversation with Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone

actually from what I heard today Oprah did not pay for the cars, Pontiac gave them all to the show for free, I assume for advertising purposes.

Good point but it still doesn't change the fact that I could have used a new car for my traveling back and forth to work.

I wish I was in that audience!

You could sell the car and get the money for the mortgage... add some decals to it and sell it with a 2% markup.

It wasn't ever her tax writeoff - they were donated my GM to promote their new G6 model - pretty smart marketing to have an hour long commercial for their car that millions will watch, never mind hear about on the net. Plus 270 people from all over the country are now driving around in a car they will rave about no matter what because they got it for free. That's priceless.

270 cars x $26,000 = about 5 million. A drop in the bucket for that amount of advertising. Damn people who work in advertising.

She may not have paid for them, but was a high enough caliber celebrity for Pontiac to feel she would provide them with the publicity. She was the one who made it happen <Thank you Oprah>

I am writting you a letter to explain why I could not attend your show that day so you can just deliver the new car to my place of residence

that's very slick of GM to take a small 7.7 million dollar loss. pennies compared to what they spend on TV advertising...

Hmmm....now I'm thinkin'...that Rob (IM's Oprah) DiMaggio here should be givin' GM a call...

I mean, I'll bet we'd all be willing to put Pontiac avatars on here for a nice box with keys. . .and there are more of us needy gymrats than those people in that TV diva's audience. Besides, we could get GoPro to maybe do a free online commercial liftin' up the back end of one of the cars and shakin' it just to show people how easy it is to get the snow off in the winter. Or...or like J'Bo could wear a bikini and drive one along the beach...

C'mon, Rob...give 'em a call - ya know you are a better host than Oprah anyway. . .

But hell he won't even give us a T-shirt

You should at least get a Tshirt when you hit the 5000 post marker
Either that, or I should give him one for putting up with me for this many posts

Now we're in trouble - he's gonna wake up tomorrow morning and we're gonna end up on Oprob's "favorite banned things" list. . .

Ya know, I saw one of the morning news shows talkin' about that Oprah giveaway this morning...the weatherman got the audience outside the studio in New York to step up to this covered table, and they gave away these little matchbox cars to everyone there....hehehe. ..the crowd went wild screaming "everyone gets a car"...oops..now that's not quite what we had in mind, Rob. . .
