? Bpe?
Hello,
I'm currently about to graduate from a BPE degree and am trying to decide what to do as a career. I'm thinking I'm probably going to do some more education of some kind because there's not really a whole lot you can do with a just a BPE degree. I just had a general question for you guys to help give me some ideas. I've been thinking and thinking about what I truly want to do but I'm having trouble recognizing my true passion. So I was wondering:
1) What is your current job/career?
2) What education/training do you have that enabled you to get this career?
3) What is the best and worst thing about your career?
Anything you'd like to share with me would be a huge help!!
Thanks so much for your time!

I think its a canadian equivalent to bachelors degree?
Bachelors of Physical Education I'm assuming.
You have a ton of options. Here are but a few:
Sports Therapist/Athletic Therapist
Masters Degree in whatever you're most interested in
Sports Medicine School
Exercise Physiologist/Kinesiologist
Ergonomics
Coaching/Personal Training
Biggest thing is to find something you want to do every day and enjoy and do that - getting paid for it is just a bonus.
Today I can do what others will not so that tomorrow I will do what others cannot.
The difference between winners and losers is that winners do things that losers don't want to do.
Teach Korean privates in Saigon, Vietnam.1) What is your current job/career?
Not necesarry for the job, but I have: B.A. Political Science, Minor Psych, Peace Corps training, TEFL Certification, and am Pursuing an MA TEFL in Education.2) What education/training do you have that enabled you to get this career?
Best: live anywhere in the world. Work 12 hours per week to survive *well* or work more to save.3) What is the best and worst thing about your career?
Worst: Burnout, lack of benefits, although IRA and health insurance can be had.
NOTE: the entire concept of a "career" is really over for most of us. We will change many jobs in many different fields throughout our working careers.
Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first.

1) I'm a web and graphic designerOriginally Posted by BerryBlis
2) Yes, and no. I earned a bachelors degree in communication, majored in Public Relations and sociology. Bitched and moaned through the required design classes then, claiming I didn't need them because i wanted to be a writer. Three months out of college, I ended up working as a web designer for a dot com... six years later, I have yet to "be" a writer.
3) Best, you get to be creative, and work with creative people -- some of the most fun and ecclectic set of people you'll ever meet. And in the "ideal" creative setting, the standard rules of the stuffy corporate world often don't apply. It's much more casual and free-spirited, while still structured. Oh, and I get to play with computers all day.
The worst thing, from my point of view is that for a person like me, who has an innate desire to make some kind of difference with her life, some kind of impact on the world, and help others, this career choice kinda sucks. It's not about "art" for me, because I'm not an artist. So it's not like I'm touchign lives with my fabulous brochure layouts.
It's about business and marketing and the bottom line, despite all it's free-spiritedness and creativity. I don't feel fulfilled. I don't feel like I am working with a PURPOSE or a CAUSE in this line of work. The money is great, but when i go home, I feel like it was just another wasted day. Eh. You asked.
I'm currently exploring other interests and options, while still staying here so I can eat and pay rent.
Anything else I might want to add: If there is one thing I can tell you it's that it doesn't matter what you got your degree in, unless you plan to be somethign highly specialized like a doctor or a lawyer or a rocket scientist. It matters more that you GOT a degree, which proves that you can commit to something and see it through. It proves that you can work hard, face challenges and come out a better, more well-rounded person in the end. Explore any and all things that interest you, regardless of whether you have a degree to back it up. In this life, and especially in American society (maybe it's different where you live), so much emphasis is placed on money as the measure of success, that it's hard to remember that you are LIVING your life, not merely existing and "getting by". I don't know if that makes sense. Basically, don't let lack of a degree or education in some unfamiliar area limit you or hold you back from exploring something else you might be interested in.
Just because you earned a degree in Physical Education, doesnt mean this is what you have to do with the rest of your life. You can parlay thigns you've learned from this into other fields, or use this as a stepping stone toward building your own business, or writing books...or... well anything.
Like Ponyboy just said: " Biggest thing is to find something you want to do every day and enjoy and do that - getting paid for it is just a bonus."

I am a System Administrator for a large hospital system. Basically, I make the Payroll/Human Resource system is doing what it's supposed to.
There is little in college that can train you for this. It's really a "learn as you do" kind of job. I got into it by taking an entry level payroll clerk position out of college, and from there I got into the I.S./technical side of it, which is where I am now. That said, I would not be where I am now without the college degree (B.S. in Business Administration).
The best: I work with great people, I get a lot of time off (5 weeks vacation), my schedule is extremely flexible, and the pay is great.
The worst: The job itself is very challenging at times. And the 2:00 AM phone calls when something goes wrong really suck.
I'm a programmer, got a BS in CS (Computer Science).
Best part: they pay me & I get good health benefits.
Worst part: everything else.
The lions sing and the hills take flight.

well, it probably has more to do with the company I work for, there are times of stress, like when we roll out new software, but not day to day.Originally Posted by Jodi
Airfield Manager nowadays. Not bad, but I hate going to meetings all the time, especially when my being there is pointless as most have nothing to do with the airfield.
Don't mind it, but it's not the same as being an aircraft dispatcher. Luckily, come the new year I'll be back doing what I like - dispatching aircraft.
No I didn't. Thanks alot. I get alot of negative feedback for that goal but it goes right in one ear and out the other. At my recent physical this past August I was the only girl that passed. None of them could carry the 150lb dummy after sprinting a 80 sec course, scaling a few chain fences and such. Surprisingly alot of overweight people attempted.Originally Posted by Robert DiMaggio
