I would agree with this, but the fact that we seem to promote obesity makes me believe this will not happen. People get obese, become sick, insurance covers their care. Plus we seem to be so close to obesity being considered a disease, AND we allow fat people to sue fast food restaurants because it is not their fault they are fat.

It's interesting to think what direction everything might be going in in a few years... Coincidentally, and sortof related to this topic, I just saw this book on Amazon.com "Thinner Than Thou". It's a Kurt Vonnegut-esque fictional story about society in the future and how physical perfection becomes the one true world-wide religion. I know... it sounds stupid, but the concept of the story seems interesting.

A part of the description says: "In the tomorrow of Thinner Than Thou, the cult of the body has become the one true religion. The Dedicated Sisters are a religious order sworn to help anorexic, bulimic, and morbidly obese youth. Throughout the land, houses of worship have been replaced by the health clubs of the Crossed Triceps. And through hypnotically powerful evangelical infomercials, the Reverend Earl preaches the heaven of the Afterfat, where you will look like a Greek god and eat anything you want. Just sign over your life savings and come to Sylphania, the most luxurious weight-loss spa in the world, where the Reverend himself will personally supervise your attainment of physical perfection.

But the glory of youth and thinness that America worships conceals a hidden world where teens train for the competitive eating circuit, where fat porn and obese strippers feed people's dark desires, and where an underground railroad of rebellious religions remember when people worshipped God instead of the Afterfat.

GG, this sounds like a fun read and perhaps not too far from being possible.

    Dale,

I hope they will wake up and get into Bodybuilding. It is the very best gift a person can give themselves. A house can not stand without its foundation - the same it true for Man and a body that is totally healthy is a Man's foundation - and this country's - if it is to survive.

I might have to check that out GG. Thanks!

Personally I think we are going to become fatter and a more eating disordered society as we continue to move away from knowing our neighbors, our communities, and people tend to isolate more and more from one another. We also will continue to be more medicated looking for magic pills to make up all our short comings not just our fattitude. This is all based upon the world continuing as it is.

Now a major catostrophic event could push things to a much more survivalistic society. In that case I feel for those who think food comes from a microwave or a drive thru.

    Just my 2 cents.

As for us becoming a more survivalistic society - i guess I'd better start learning how to hunt and fish NOW!

It is always a good idea anyway. Knowing or becoming familiar with a LOT of things and having an open mind about all things is what makes a person a much better Human Being. People still have their "feelings" about "things" but their thoughts and viewpoints will have the benefit of as much information about all things so they can make good decisions. Doing this builds self-confidence - as does a well-built body and having total physical health. Ultimately this all leads to a much happier life and enjoyable living - like it is meant to be.

Having or working towards physical perfection harms no one ever and this form of "religion" certainly would benefit all Humankind. As long as "politics" could be left out of the equation I think it would certainly be a very welcome "religion" - certainly a sincere and honest and accurate religion that would encourage the health and welfare of all people regardless of who they are and hopefully there would also be the absence of bigotry and hatred.

Indeed. I would say anyone who requests gene altering therapy should not be allowed to have children.. er, I mean more children, if they already have some it doesnt make them bad parents.. But If there are horrid side effects, just one person would feel them, but who knows if the side effect doesnt show till 1000 years later in the descendants of these people.

Now, eventually I think we'll understand everything down to the smallest molecule in the body enough to create people from scratch.. even alter/make memories. At this point Id have no problem with people who undergo,"therapy" having kids, because frankly we could fix anything that went wrong, lol. But this wont happen.. ever as far as us living people are concrned. Sucks too, 'cuz from that perspective, immortality(unless killed) is possible. We, on the other hand are going to die
