    Skydiving is *the* ultimate rush.

Seriously. I went AFF (accelerated free fall) for my first jump on thursday and, wow. It's just....

No words to describe the feeling of free fall, then to float for several minutes down to earth taking in the sites all around you. It's simply amazing. 45 seconds of falling at 120 miles an hour then about 5 minutes of pure float time, fiddling around in the parachute steering this way and that.

Definately going back for a second jump within the month. I'm addicted and I think I found my new hobby.

Anyone else been skydiving (tandem, line, or aff)? Is anyone here a certified jumper?

My highest jump is from 15,000'. Love that shit but am not certified so can't jump around Texas till I buck up. Sucks but I have to pay out the classes, do the weenie tandom jump (like I want a 200 pound back pack as I freefall!?!) thing a few times. It is a major rush ... get the cert and jump for the rest of your life it rocks.

I had made a promise to one of my friends going in the Air Force that I would do a jump before she went in. I think mine was from 13,500. OMG it was freaky but kewl as hell! You could hear everything on the ground when you were coming down.

Tandem is required to get a cert in texas? Interesting. It's not required here but I guess most people do it their first time to get their feet wet.

People would ask, "First jump? Tandem? No???? Oh my god. You're insane." I guess most people can't keep their cool the first jump

I'm definately looking to get certified but all in all it'll cost around 2 grand to do... I'm starting to save :]

The rip here is that these guys don't really want anyone to get certified ... just do tandoms for ever. So they suck your wallet empty a couple of times till they get a few BMW payments ahead then move you along the trail to getting your cert. Sucks ... but I am gonna hafta do it to get my ticket.

As an air traffic guy, I'm not jumping out of a perfectly good airplane.

My wife jumps, and tries to get me to do it, but I ain't having any of it.

Congrats on your jump. It's a great sport for those with feel for the rush.

Me, I'd rather be hunting something.

    Got a sky diving joke:

    Army private graduates Airborne School.
His father goes to his graduation and goes up to him after the ceremony.
"Son! Congratulaions! How did it go? Have any problems?"
"Well, Dad, everything was going great. I did everything like they taught in school. Everything was perfect until I got to the door. I..I..froze Dad! I couldn't do it!"
    Well, what happened?
"The drill instructor came up to me and told me that if I didn't jump, he was gonna bend me over and *uck me in the ass!"
Well, tell me boy, did you jump???
    "A little at first"...

My birthday's in March! Beginning of March though, but i could be persuaded to wait a few weeks. I mean it IS jumping out of a plane, not dinner theater, so yeah...

What will you be doing out here?

We usually spend about 8 days in South Beach at the end of March. I love S. Fla. It's the best place in the world.

Never jumped out of a plane, but there is a first time for everything.

Hey, I'll come down and jump out of a plane just to get to spend time with you!
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain...
