    Need help! Celebrating Veterans paper...

Hey i need help on this 2 page report for history
The subject is: Celebrating our Veterans

its a paper about how I celebrate our veterans and their service
so its basically all opinion type stuff...

the problem is i dont celebrate veterans...i mean a lot of kids dont...
its not that i dont appreciate them, i just dont do anything special on Memorial day or veteran's day....

so i need help for typing this...

any ideas at all would be great

Its gotta be 2 pages, 12 pt., times new roman, double spaced, so not too long, but not short....

    thanks in advance

another problem is that i dont KNOW any veterans, so people like albob who have any experience in the military would be a great help

You're gonna get Albob to help you write this paper?

Don't worry, we just have to get a few of these out of our system.

My grand-father was in the Army, my father was in the Army and Navy and I was in the Navy. I volunteer at Club 100 when they have family dinners. Club 100 is an orginization of WW2 vets made up of American-Japanese from Hawaii who even while families in California were being locked up in camps fought to secure America's freedom.

I myself became a conscientious objector during my third year of service and have maintained my stance that we are above the type of brutish activity that is war. It always amazed me that these great men in power can't get together and discuss differences without threatening and resorting to violence nor that we the majority that want nothing but peace allow them to use us in their fights.

"War will exist until that distant day when the conscientious objector enjoys the same reputation and prestige that the warrior does today."

I do not know the exact scope of this paper, but it would be much more interesting if you could write about "why we celebrate our veterans".

Now, back to the original point of the thread. So, Catman, you say you don't celebrate veterans? I beg to differ. It's been said, and I agree, that all of our freedoms were bought and paid for with the blood of our veterans. You're free, right? You practice your freedoms, right? THAT is how you celebrate veterans, you practice and celebrate the freedoms that the veterans gave their lives for. Give examples of what freedoms mean the most to you, why they mean the most to you and how you practice and celebrate those freedoms in honor of the veterans who paid that price. That should fill the bill.

H..well, you could talk about how looking at the flag can make you remember all the people who fought and died over the years to add the stars for each state. . .then you could talk about the first fighters from the Alamo (you're a Texan, right?) and how they all perished for independence, but started a movement that freed Texas. Then you could talk about the story of the Star Spangled Banner - the bombs bursting in air, the rockets red glare...how bad Roseanne was at singing it. . .hehehe....or you could talk about the veterans from World War II who raised the flag at Iwo Jima (one of the most famous photos ever taken) and how that flag represents the things that made them go to war. . .
You could mention Manic's experience - it's a good example of how many different ways Americans of many backgrounds became veterans, and then get Albob to talk about what it was like to get into a military plane. And ask Stickboy - he's in the service now. . .

I don't know when this is due, but you could email a veteran's group online and just ask them what that means. . .or like email the VFW and ask them a few questions about what makes their club special . . .they'd probably give you great ideas, and you can add them to your own. Maybe you have a veteran's cemetary near you - or a memorial from one of the wars with names on it - you could go down there and just write about what you think when you see their names and imagine what their lives were about.
I guess if you had more time, it could be a really good paper to take one name from a memorial and see if there are any family still in your town - and then call them or talk to them about what they remember. But if you are on a tight deadline, Manic sounds like he has a really different experience in his family, and you could just interview him and write about how you felt and what you learned.

I guess if you get real desperate, you could dress your cat up in his Rambo outfit and write about all the other cats he has beaten up defending his freedom, his territory, and his...um...Kibbles n' Bits. . .

And then we'll make you a junior reporter. . .

Now that's a really good idea. . .! Well, except the farts part. . .or that the South could have one the War of Northern Aggression if they had only shot boiled peanuts at the yahnkee soldiers.
