I can't wait for The Rum Diaries if they ever get around to it.

    This Johnny is cool too.

agreed. he is a great actor, though. I can't stand most of hollywood for that matter.. I watch them for entertainment & I don't have to like them outside the movies.

Depp has spent much of his free time living in France and saying how ashamed he is that he's an American.

I agree, I try not to know too much about actors that I like, on a personal level, but this one I cannot overlook.

Freedom of speech. From what I read he doesn´t like how things are going now. Not that he doesn´t like America.

"America is dumb, its something like a dumb puppy that has big teeth — that can bite and hurt you, aggressive," Depp was quoted as saying. In context of National Age America is very young only a couple centuries whereas other countries stretch back a millenia or more, yet we wield the mightiest sword with the least experience in swinging it.

Depp recalled that French fries were renamed "Freedom" fries (search) in the House cafeteria on Capitol Hill at the height of U.S. anger over France's refusal to back the administration of President George W. Bush over the war in Iraq.

"Nothing made me happier than when I read that — grown men and grown women in positions of power in the United States government," Depp said. "I was ecstatic because they revealed themselves as idiots." I agree with him, that these great thinkers stooped so low as to rename a food.

So he decided to live somewhere else until the political situation in the U.S simmered down, with Bush in office who can blame him. Alot of artists have lived in other countries.

They just get heard cause they are on camera often, it's not that they think they are better.

Playboy: You received some unfavorable press last year during the war in Iraq. You said that America is like a dumb puppy that can bite and hurt you. Were you surprised by the reaction.

Depp: I would never by disrespectful to my country, to the people, especially the kids who are over there serving in the armed forces. My uncle was wounded in Vietnam, paralyzed from the neck down. I would never say those things the way they claim I said them.

Playboy: What exactly did you say?

Depp: I essentially said the United States is a very young country compared with Europe. Were still growing. Thats it. I wouldnt say anything anti-American. Im an American, and I love my country.

Playboy: Whats your view of President Bush? Depp: What can I say? Hes somebodys kid. Hes somebodys father. God bless him. Good luck. You know what I mean? I dont agree with his politics, and Im not going to pretend to, but I dont agree with a lot of peoples politics.

His lady is a french actress and singer so he balances his time between France and the U.S.
