A problem no one wants to face
In the last few years there have been millions of illegal immigrants busted for crossing our common border with Mexico. If that many were stopped how many actually got through?
The answer to that is that nobody really knows because we have done all but fling open our international border with Mexico recently, in what’s tantamount to an invitation to come on in, legalities and papers notwithstanding. This policy is not only silly beyond words it is dangerous beyond reason. If it’s that simple for a Mexican illegal to slip across, what makes it any more difficult for a Muslim extremist carrying devastating weapons to walk across. Now before some of you politically correct word watchers get on your high horse and start accusing me of racism, let me make this statement. I have nothing against any law abiding, hard working person who wants to enter our country for the purpose of having a better life coming to America, in fact that’s what America’s all about. But I hardly think that the first thing someone coming to this country should do is break the law. That does not make for a good citizen but one who defies our legal system everyday they spend in this country. And it’s got to be a paranoid existence to say the least, having to keep one eye out for the immigration authorities all the time. To say that the flow of illegal immigrants can’t be stopped is ridiculous, it just boils down to just how bad we want to do it. Are we willing to devote the resources to solving the problem or not? If we need a work force of Mexican immigrants and I’m not denying that we do, let them be documented and accounted for the problem is that most of our politicians, and I’m speaking about both sides of the aisle, are too afraid of the Hispanic voting block to do anything about it. Which means that the problem will just become worse and worse, a self-proliferating conundrum with no end in sight. We are definitely vulnerable on our southern border and sooner or later we will end up paying for it. And when we do there will be a mad dash in Washington as politicians vie for sound bite time to tell the American public just how deplorable things have been on the border and just how much to blame the opposing party is and let the world know that they are sponsoring a bill to close down the border and make sure that this will never happen again. Come on guys, can’t we close the barn door before the horse gets out just this once? |

"...If I could be a superhero
I'd be Immigration dude I'd send all the foreigners back to their homes For eating up all of our food And taking our welfare and best jobs to boot Like landscaping, dishwashing, picking our fruit I'd pass a lot of laws to get rid of their brood Cause I'd be Immigration Dude..." DG,
You are right. Neither party wants to touch this political hot potato. Business men of both parties want the cheap labor. If the borders were enforced the labor would disappear. So the political contributions would disappear. We need the labor too because Americans will not do the jobs that the Mexicans will. For some reason, we feel it is beneath us or something. You don't see any whites, blacks or asians harvesting crops. And with rare exception do you see them on cleaning crews or gardening (some asians do gardening). Hence no politician deals with this issue. But terrorists could easily come across this border too. |

The first generation picks fruit, does concrete work, or drives a septic truck so the next generation can be a lawyer. I would do the same ... but I still want a BIG FRICKING WALL from Cali to Texas that could not be climbed or dug under. No mas ayuda aqui por favor. Vive sol y trabajo aqui.

Man I really hear you on this one - you should come up to Canada. Not only do we get all of the people that you guys don't let in, but we welcome them with open arms, give them free health care, majorly subsidized housing so they can live for free and don't require them to find a job or learn to speak English.
I pay rent, taxes and work two jobs to get by - yesterday on the news an immigrant family got handed a house by Habitat for Humanity for next to nothing. The wife couldn't even speak enough English to say "thank you". Now their 5 kids can be raised in a house instead of a 1 bedroom apartment. Yippee. |

i didnt read the whole post, but my opinion is that people who comme here and are productive and legal and positive people and are not breaking the law and being productive for siciety i thing these people should be aloud to stay, but fuckers who come here and break the law and abuse evertyhing should be kicked out, this is a good country and people who cross the border and make shit here should be kicked out

On the crime side of this issue, our jails have a huge, disproportionate number of illegals arrested for crime (not just illegally being here). I live in San Diego (border town) and my wife was a prosecuting attorney for the district attorney so I have seen some of the stats. DG might have some numbers for his area too.
Illegals made up about 20% of our jail population. I am sure they do not make up that percentage of the general population. So they generally commit more crime than the average american. One of those additional costs of them being here. |
