Hey,
Today in one of my psych classes the prof brought up an interesting question to get people thinking about their lives. She asked, 1) if a doctor (or god, or whatever you want, just someone who knows...I know someone would post, the docs wrong or something...) told you you had one week left to live what would you do? and 2) same situation, but you found out you had 3 mores years left what would you do? Anyone care to share? BerryBlis |

One week - sell all my shit and give the money to my family. Go out and have lots of fun, and see all the people who I need to see. Id right old wrongs.
3 years - Live a normal life and juice like crazy. Id build a better life for my family and friends in my last years, invest for them, get great things for them, etc. |

1) Finally explain to my boss what it is I do all day at work. Then go beg some hot chicks for sex by telling 'em I only have one week to live. (Since I'm sure they have never heard this one before, I am guaranteed to score!
)2) Pretty much like number 1, but replace "hot chicks" with "dirty, dirty whores." ![]()

That isn't the question itself - anyone with intelligence and insight would follow it up (as I gather her intent), leading to the ultimate questions:
- What does the answer say about the life your living now - Irrespective of a week, a month, or a year, what does that say about the choices you've made, continue to make, and for what end. How does your perception of time and circumstance influence your conceived options and decisions. That leads back to the first question. It's a deceptive question, because it isn't a question; it can't be approached as though it was the question posed on the surface without delving into sheer lunacy and uselessness. Anyone can pull an answer out of their ass in a hypothetical situation that doesn't inflict the blunt-force trauma of the actual occurrence; the usefullness in this is to reflect and reasses. When that time comes, if it comes in the sense it was introduced, then we'll see the difference between what was said and what was done. The difference will always be striking for those who attempted to answer the question, instead of using it.

In all honesty, I would probably obsess about it for a few days and then totally forget about it, in both cases.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.

1) Do a lot of really bad things (well... some don't consider them bad) that I probably won't ever do in my life (since I'm not dying).
2) Spend them traveling and use the last week to do #1. |

back where I grew up there was this big field that I would have to drive around to get to the nearest town to shop in. I always had this urge to drive through it instead of around it, and decided that if I ever had some illness that would kill me in 24 hours or in this case 3 days/ 3 years, I would go back to South Carolina and drive through that field.

1 Week? Rob a bank, invest it for my son, then spend the remaining time with him in the best we could. 3 years? Same answer.

Hello,
Everyone responses were pretty great. The point of the exercise was sorta to determine your personality style. If your more of an extrover and impulsive person, you will tend to want to do things that that your ego has wanted to do (but that have been suppressed because they are morally wrong for example). Whereas if you are introverted and more intellectual, you will reflect upon your life and see what really matters to you the most and that's what you would want to spend your time doing. The difference in time periods is that in 1 week, you are more likely to do what is extremely meaningfull to you and these are the things you should try to do more of in everyday life to become a happier person and the 3 years is supposed to help you see what you would really like to be doing in your life so you can get a chance to see how close you are to fullfilling it in your real life... Thought it was sorta cool...but i'm a psych geek so what can I say... BerryBlis |

I can't say what I would do. I would actually have to be in the situation.
If it was a week, I think I'd spend my time saying goodbye to family, old friends and contacting people in my past to correct any wrongs or falling outs. If it was three years - probably more of the same, but I'd spend all the time I could with my wife and kids. Prepare my kids for my death, and try and leave very good memories of me. |

I've reconsidered my answer:
I'd spend that one week cracking heads like coconuts. Three years would allow me more time with more heads to crack.
