Paul Martin's Liberals reintroduced a controversial bill Monday that would decriminalize marijuana possession and replace criminal charges with fines for anyone caught with up to 15 grams of the drug.

Until the government can find a way to control it and tax it, this will never happen.

This would be very true if they were going to legalize pot. The Liberals don't want pot legalized; they want simple possession decriminalized. Simple possession would mean a fine and no criminal record. The liberals also want the 600 000 Canadians with a possession charge to be pardoned.

I agree. But what is the problem with regulating and taxing? I dont see one. It would make a lot of people happy, and it would make the government some money. It would create jobs here in the United States. It would put criminals out of jobs.

Marijuana is similar, in effects, to alcohol, and that runs rampant in our society. What is the problem?

Tobacco companies could possibly lose profits from the government decriminalizing pot; but all the pot smokers I know wouldn't touch a cigarette. Tobacco has become so taboo where I am from.

If Tobacco companies squash it this time around, the government will just try again in the future. IMO It is just a matter of time before pot is decriminalized. I can't speak for all Canadian's but I am definetly for decriminalizing pot possession.

Make it legal under the same laws as booze. If you drink and act like weed is some kind of evil force we need protected from you are self deluded. If you are under 32 and give me smack about this ... I have been smoking weed longer than you have been alive and I am fine !!

    Manic would Burn
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012
