Seems fairly obvious to me. If you have a volunteer army, people with better options will choose those options.

Maybe they are naive to fight for the personal interest of others?

Could you run that through a Brazilian-to-English dictionary and post it again? Thanks.

I personally think that everyone would benefit from some time in the military. I sure would have. My lazy, fat, punk ass would have been kicked into shape.

All those wars are not about what people think they are.
I just could never go to war.

Then again, peace is not a reality so someone must go there.

My step-father was a multi-millionaire and offered to send me to college out of High School, but I wanted to get out and see the world so I joined the Navy and got to see Australia, the Middle East, Thailand, Hong Kong and wound up in Hawaii.

not yet plucked as to slacken the seams

no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

I'm sure we could scrounge up a few volunteers right here who'd be happy to give it a try.

Education opens up many more opportunities as it should, if you have a doctorate degree in a field you are worth more money plain and simple, and typically will end up making a lot more money.

As far as getting rich, there are plenty of people that have no college and become millionaires, and plenty of people with doctorate degress who live middle class.

In the military you have to have a college degree to become a commissioned officer, which automaticaly puts your rank above all enlisted military members. However there are plenty of enlisted military that have college education and degrees, but remain Seargants and in rank fall below the lowest commissioned officer, i.e. Lietenant.

I figured my experiences around the world would give me a better opportunity at excelling in college once I started and it did.

You have no idea or maybe you do how bad America looks to the rest of the world now. It went from the place you go to realize your dreams and be free to a country that is completely greedy and arrogant.
I dont agree with that view, hell, I am brazilian, we like everybody, the rest of the world doesn´t see that way though.

I wonder if they are so disgusted with us that they quit accepting our foreign aid?

That is exactly the type of thing that people who are being helped don´t like to hear.

Good point, the US gives out billions in AID every year, I guess all of the countries that "hate" us should no longer accept the money...

Although I love America this attitude, we are the best, we do what we want and we don´t care about what the rest of the world thinks, that is the problem.
