I used to work for carfax. If you want additional information please ask here.

    1. How do they get the info.

    2. What info.

i know what info they offer. i already purchased a 30 day trial. i was just going to run others vin #'s in case they were curious about their vehicle.

it will tell if your car has been wrecked, flooded, etc.
it will list the mileage from year to year.
how many people have owned the vehicle and what states it was used in.
    where the vehicle was made.
it will list all the details of your car (type of engine, amentities, etc.)
im sure theres more i just cant remember everything.

    I used to run reports.

One time, I ran a report on a guy with a Corvetter. It was about 8 years old. The odometer was rolled back, many many miles.

Flood cars were interesting also. Let say there is a flood somewhere in the state of X. If the water gets into the electrical system, the car is going to be toast. So, people move the flood cars out of state, wash the title, (saying it's clean), then sell it.

It is harder to wash titles these days, as the states are more interlinked.
