I have it for work and HATE IT, HATE IT, HATE, IT, HATE IT, HATE IT!!!!!

The walkie talkie feature is great. You can talk to friends nation wide who also have Nextel for as long as you want at no charge............................Yeah, on the rare occasion you have a signal. Even the regular phone SUCKS. You can be standing out in the clear blue sky with a five-bar signal talking up a storm, next thing you know your call is disconnected. You look down to see a "No Signal" message. Then, after five or ten minutes of wasted effort trying to re-dial, you get your signal back.....................for another five minutes. This is not a rare occurance either. This is an every day event.

    NEXTEL SUCKS!!!

I have friends who I have warned about nextel that did not heed my warnings. Most of them swicthed out of their contract at the end of the year. You will get a signal less than 50% of the time. I have a friend whos phone doesn't even work at his house despite my shitty At&t working fine. It is actually so bad that I will not use my cell phone on friends who have nextel because they get cut off 3 or so times each time they call, leading me to waste minutes.

The one cool thing is if someone has the nextel and you squak in on them if they forget to shut it off in a meeting. I have used my friends nextel to do this on many occassions and it is great fun. "Hey faggot, quit suckin dicks and pick up your fun." is probably pretty embarassing if a room full of superiors gets to hear it.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.

    I'm about there

I switched from Verizon to try out Nextel. About the only feature worth having is the walkie-talkie. Other than that, the connection stinks. You'd think for as long as Nextel's been in business, they could afford to put some halfway decent towers up........................in multiple areas.

IAB - When I was with Verizon I always got dropped calls. Do you experience that with them? (just one of the reasons I ran after contract)

The problem is they're greed bastards who were trying to monopolize the industry. They refused to share towers with any other company. Most of the cell towers you see are used by multiple companies, they just use different signals. Hey, sharing, what a concept. Everybody wins. But not Nextel, oh hell no. They have to have their own towers and nobody else can use them. Consiquently, nobody else will let Nextel use their towers either, so Nextel gets shitty coverage. What bothers me is that not enough other companies have jumped on the "walkie-talkie" bandwagon. That's the only reason my company has a Nextel contract. If some other company would create that feature they'd get a HUGE nationwide contract with Roto-Rooter.

I think every cell service has issues...it does not matter what cell company you pick, there will be spots where each service does not get good signals. It just so happens with Verizon, that spot is my house and the immediate surrounding area. But other than that, Verizon has been satisfactory. Sure I get dropped calls on occassion, but I did when I was with Cingular too.

There is no subsitute for old fashioned WIRED phones.

I thought Verizon just came out with it?

That is messed up about the towers. I guess Nextel won't be getting any coverage in VT or NH in the near future since putting towers up there is a daunting task to say the least. I think there is maybe 2 towers in all of VT out of about 70 requests.

    I completely agree!!!!

Verizon has walkie talkie...I believe they call it: "push to talk" or something like that.

Nextel is the worst carrier with Sprint right behind. ATT is pretty shitty but since they merged with Cingular/SBC their coverage should be getting better with time. I know that AT&T on the northeast sucks pretty good right now...

Cingular is the best hands down...
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.
