Instant Messengers - Need some input

Hey folks, doing some research here.

I can only think of the following commercial instant messengers (IM) off the top of my head:

    MSN
    Yahoo
    AIM
    Trillion

Can anyone inform me of any others that are widely used (i'm not interested in one your mate developed for a project).

Also, anyone who's popped in here that uses an IM, can you tell me which one and what features and capabilities of it you admire most.

    Really appreciated any feedback, thanks.

I like both AIM and MSN Messenger. Of the two, I like AIM more just because I know more of the features. If you have an MSN email account I would go with MSN since you could check email and IM at the same time. Although I do not like that everytime I go to hotmail.com Messenger starts automatically.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.

Download Trillian. You can use Aim, Yahoo, and Msn along with ICQ. Best I've seen.

I like Yahoo's offline messaging (like email sort of but in IM), and I like AIM because..... everyone uses it.

I hate how Yahoo's IM sound is so friggin LOUD compared to anything else running on my machine, I hate how it is modal when a message pops up that I do not manually minimize, I can't simply click the background window to return to what I was doing. I haven't found a way to change the Yahoo sound but I sure wish I could.

Trillian is nice for certain reasons, but compatibility is always an issue with file and image sending.
