my daughter says press file open new window... no idea if she's right
IE browser will not open in a seperate window now. I updated macromedia and now every time I open a new window the previous one is replaced by the new one instead of opening in a new seperate browser. This is killing me here. I've looked in control panel > folder options > and made sure to check "open each browser in its own window". WTF is up here?
Mozilla works fine too btw ...

Don't look back ~ You're not going that way!
Thanks for trying ... but it still closes the old window. I'm OK in Firefox but IE is what another user is use to working with so I need to fix it. Nice try though![]()

Control + N is also the shortcut for a new window, but if I'm not mistaken it sounds like he is saying when he goes to load a page in the new window it goes to the previous window??? That sounds awfull funky if thats what you mean.
My homepage is BLANK to decrease load times.
Popup killers will often not allow opening a new window depending how well they work, but I'm not even sure exactly what your situation is from your description.

I'm with you on the blank home page Mudge. Way faster and less anoying. But my problem is that I am , like you are most likely, wanting to have several pages opened at the same time. When I open a new page the old one gets closed ... only with IE not mozilla ... killing what ever I was doing on that first page. Can't have that. I am not a new guy with computers but am still stumped.Originally Posted by Mudge

Ok now I get what you are saying, I thought you meant it was loading the requested page on the previous IE window...
No new software installed, any IE updates or something? McCrashee Home Security or anything?
Otherwise at least for now, I'm stumped... I would do a spyware sweep with 50 of your favorite spyware programs just for kicks.

The whole MS Windows OS window design model is lacking in my opinion. Modal windows I HATE. Copy & Paste is not consistent - some window contents support it others don't (especially in outlook addresses). There seems to be no consistent philosophy as to when a new window is opened in MS Word as part of the core parent process inside the "View" menu or another process context and window altogether. etc. I HATE Bill Gates for the crap he has pushed on the world.
Ah, now I feel better.

p.s. if unsure if a link will open a new window within IE just go to file->new window and replicate the current window then select the link from there. Since it is already in history buffer it loads very fast. This way you have the original window up to copy and paste from or reference.

Whenever I run into IE issues, like legit pop up boxes that don't load. I reinstall it. It has fixed 90% of the problems at work. It wont wipe out any of your favorites.
Here ya go.

Thanks guys. I am using winblows 2000 on this machine. I tried that link and did the reboot Cappo ... thanks for the idea but I am in the same situation. When the new window opens it closes the old one.
My brain is melting on this one![]()
