In Hawaiian, Samoan, Tongan (Polynesian) Cultures Mahus were well respected by their families. They were valuable because they could do the work of a man or a woman thus becoming assets. An autopsy surprised everyone by showing that Walsh had male genitals and both male and female chromosomes -- a condition known as mosaicism.
