For all you fireamrs lovers , hes a thing to make you think . Only america has pretty much no laws concerning firearms possession. And the numbers speak by themselves.

number of homicides per 100 000 population (2003)

    USA :5.69
    UK : 1.93
    Canada :1.73
    France : 1.65
    Australia : 1.63

Canada has very stric firearm control. I dont know exactly the regulations in uk , france and australia , but I know for one thing , it is far more controlled than it is in the us.

Its funny you should mention Austrailia; they can legally own ROCKET LAUNCHERS.
As far as,"Pretty much no laws" Pu-lease, come down here and re-research that one again. , Many states do have very strict gun control; and yet, I dont hear people saying how safe they feel walking down a dark alley in New York City.
Also, I forget the exact number, but FBI records show something like 1/2 of all gun related homicides in the US are criminals shooting criminals. Then add in self defense, and police. Now we have the number of people we actually care about getting shot; and it looks pretty similar to the UK. Now lets put this situation into context, in the UK, people have to stand by and watch their kids raped as the try to call the police; but the rapist then slits their throats with a boxcutter. Sure, in the US the same thing might happen, but thats their own fault; at least here we have the option for rational people to have sufficient defense.
Now lets break it down to physical conflict.. You want your signifigant other defending herself with a knife, or p226 compact. Not to be an ass here, but most women forced into such a situation dont have the state of mind, and strenght(lol, Im obviously not refering to IMers here, rofl) to physically take someone down with a knife. In the situation she has a gun, the robber may now have a gun too(because he was obeying the law when he was robbing people before) but 98%+ of the time, criminals dont just shoot people in the back of the head. She would have a quite sufficient chance to let him offguard, and put one through his head.. Thus raising the homicide rate in the US again
With studies boasting as many as 4million+ defensive gun uses(Brandishing ussually defers a criminal, thus not 4million+ shootings) I would much rather take my chance carrying a gun than just hoping criminals dont break the law.

Also consider, out of 30,000+ gun deaths a year, about 40% are suicides. This one very fucked up country, lol. The few thousand the happen every year that werent in defense/line of duty/criminals on criminals are very often due to the US being,"The melting pot" we let everyone into this country; and believe it or not.. wow, all the minorities hate each other! In fact Id say the only thing minorities in the country agree on is that they hate white people. Not that there arent some shitty white people here either; but whites are a minority too- I was including the in that previous statement, lol. They just happen to be the biggest group of minorities.

hey , we have 4 submarines we bought from the uk used So dont fuck with us

Anyways , chain , those are good points , but keep in mind , that we have criminal gangs in Canada just like you do in the states. Where the hell do you think most of your marijuana comes from ? Canada and mexico.Lol. A lot of murderers here are also gang related. Also keep in mind , that the percentage is for 100 000 habitants . All proportions were kept and yes , we have police here in canada too . As for the wife , alarm systems exist. Doors have a lock . Id rather have an alarm system and a baseball bat / knife in the house as well as a phone than having a gun and risking my kid fireing it by accident.

As for the immigration , you really think there is no immigration in canada , uk , franche etc ? And you think they all get along ? No. Immigrants arent a factor here.

You can put it anyway you want , the fact is , these numbers speak for themselves. That is why I took those countries , and not underdevelopped countries. They have similar ressemblances but something differs in the firearm laws .Making excuses to trying to reduce the number is IMO closing your eyes on the problem. But I know a lot of americans think like that , and I respect their opinion. It is not my problem , and I am sure glad it isnt.

Oh ya , and btw , hardly anyone has a gun in my region . Some have for recrational purpouses and heck , and it must of been a few years since Ive heard of someone going into a house and shooting / raping whatever you want with a gun in hand.

I was talking about all of the damn deer and deer hunters over there. I've done a lot of hunting over there and in your area and I've never seen those kinds of guns is what I was saying.
