3 year old drinks dad's date rape drug

    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servl...ont/TopStories

    Damn, this is just sick.

The article mentions that bodybuilders use this as a steriod..anyone heard of it?

VANCOUVER -- A three-year old girl had a narrow brush with death after she drank from her father's water bottle that contained GHB, a popular date-rape drug also used for sexual highs.
The father told police and ambulance personnel responding to a 911 call that he had brought the bottle home from a party the night before. He was charged yesterday with criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

"This is not something we see very often," said Vancouver police Constable Anne Drennan. "It was incredibly irresponsible."

Constable Drennan said the girl had been playing at home Sunday morning with her nine-year-old brother. "She got thirsty and took a drink from her dad's water bottle."

Shortly after that, the youngster started to vomit and choke and slipped into a coma. On the way to the hospital, she stopped breathing, but paramedics managed to revive her. "It was a very close call," Constable Drennan said.

After her alarmed mother's call to 911, the father, 33, admitted that the water bottle was laced with GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate), a colourless, odourless but potent liquid that can render victims unconscious for several hours.

There is a court-ordered publication ban on the man's identity.

Often called "the date-rape drug," GHB is also known as "grievous bodily harm," "liquid ecstasy" or "easy lay." In small doses, the drug is used to enhance sexual pleasure. Bodybuilders have also been known to use it as a steroid.

But overdoses can cause serious health problems and even death.

Police seized the suspect water bottle and arrested the father at the scene, Constable Drennan said.

"They were very shocked when they found out what happened, but also disgusted. . . . This serves notice to anybody who would ever consider doing anything so incredibly stupid as to leave something like that within reach of children," she said.

"That little girl had every reason to believe that taking a drink out of that water bottle was safe. It could easily have been the little girl's brother, too. You really have to wonder. The mother was extremely upset, as you can imagine."

However, Constable Drennan agreed the father should be given a bit of grudging credit for alerting the ambulance crew to the likelihood that the girl had ingested GHB.

"It's a good thing he did, because it gave them the opportunity to deal with it right away, rather than taking time out to figure what was wrong with her."

The girl was released late yesterday from Children's Hospital.

Constable Drennan said GHB is illegal to sell but not to possess. "It's a controlled substance rather than being prohibited."

The narcotic is not difficult to manufacture. "Simpler than chicken soup," according to one pharmacology expert. How-to recipes abound on the Internet.

Even relatively small doses can induce comas, particularly if the drug is used in alcohol. An awareness campaign by Vancouver police last year led to dozens of complaints from young women who said they believed they were sexually assaulted while unconscious after their drinks were spiked with GHB.

But police have difficulty pressing charges because the victims cannot remember what happened and traces of the drug pass quickly through their bodies

Yes, it was used in the 80´s as a supplement because it promoted the release of GH. I think I saw a bottle of those a couple of years ago in a supplement shop.

Used GHB as a steroid? Well, chalk that up to another myth.

I've heard they use GHB to get fucked up, since they can't drink, but DEF not as a steroid.

This pisses me off, if a man can't leave his drugs lying around the house, what freedom does he have?

Oh, and GHB was used by BBers. Prolly still is.

It is not a steroid but yes, it was used to enhance sleep and supposedly release GH. Most boards do not want to hear about it, but I've seen several people that have used it.
