It'll probably be way over 100,000. How many rural areas have yet to be visited or contacted?

Some of the nearby islands dropped as much as 30 meters!

Here is a website so people can donate money for relief organizations. I just dropped $500 for Doctors without Borders since I used to do some work with them and they use close to 90% of donations for actual relief effort instead of bureaucratic nonsense

I don't watch T.V., listen to the radio, read the paper etc. Does anyone have any links with video footage of this tragedy?

yes but not on this level, they just said today the death count is up to 77,000 and could go as high as 100,000.

apparently the US is being "stingy" with aid, I would like to punch this ignorant person in the mouth! many people do not realize that the US gives out billions of dollars in aid to other countries every year.

Countries want the US to stay out of thier business but when they need help they're quick to slam us for not helping enough.

40% of the total aid given worldwide last year was given by the U.S.

No matter what we do or how much we help, the world will just continue to hate us.

It's a common human reaction to act contemptuously towards those you're jealous of.


So I was watching the news and of all the little asian children they decide to do a special story on some blonde haired blue eyed European kid and I'm thinking "that's our little ray of hope, that one child of 100's of thousands has survived the catastrophe and he will be going home thousands of miles away from the disaster while the other darker complexioned kids have only begun the suffering and they just get used as fillers in the background while the news anchor jibber jabbers?"

maybe the powers that be think it's easier to show compassion when the eyes you are looking into are not so different from your own. unfortunately it is all too often true.

This saddens me so much. I feel for the children that were with their parents and now may have noone. Pictures of their little faces are everywhere in the papers and on the news.

Makes you feel so helpless here.

This is very sad. That place is beautiful.

I found amusing the case were the mom had to let one of her sons slip away to save the other. I know it is a very bad situation but the son was found alive and well. So they were giving the interview to CNN and the boy was looking to his mom with such a "my mom doesn´t love me" smile.

my wife and i were considering adopting some orphans from another country and with this happening we are sure it is the right thing to do to help some who are orphaned. does anyone know who we would contact.
