    How about this Jeep?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...sPageName=WDVW

I work with this guy and he wants to sell me the jeep for $6500. What do you all think?

I think thats TOO much money.

People will modify a vehicle, and hope to get some of that money back.. but never do. Sounds like this guy is trying to do just that. The axles on that are weak.. and the gear ratio is really high. It will give you good gas mileage, but wont be good for wheeling.

Why not look into a newer model?

I guess I will Jake. Spending $6500 is just better than spending $20000 LOL. But not if it's not worth it.

You could also post this on a Jeep message board, and get their insight.

Or if your daring.. try www.pirate4x4.com Even I wont go there

Yea, if I could do it over, I would browse a car forum before I bought one.. that way you can find all its quirks.. the good years, the bad years etc. Study up, before you buy. Check out www.autotrader.com I did a search with your zip, and found tons of jeeps. Goodluck bud.

I won't get the jeep. Some good points were mentioned. Explorer a good vehicle and good in snow?

Check out the last 2 pages of that thread for my snow pics.

The explorer has its quirks. The v-6's have tranny issues(not all). The newer sohc's(v6) have a better tranny, and dont have much problems. I have a manual, so dont have to worry. The v-8's have a pretty much bullet proof driveline.. I have never seen anyone with issues. Plus the limiteds or eddie bauers come with moonroof and leather.. all the goodies.
The v-8 would be really good in the snow. The explorer is much heavier than a jeep. But jeeps keep their resale better, due to the solid axles.

I just can't think of that many things to say about vehicles, LOL. But then again I don't know the difference between a V6 or a V8.

Oh boy.. You need to read up V-8/6 stands for the cylinders. 8's typically have more power, but less gas mileage, whereas the 6's are the opposite.

I have so many posts, because my truck breaks a lot Plus I mod it, so I am also inquiring(P.S. It breaks BECAUSE I mod it lol)

Haha!! I wish I knew more about cars. Was just never around anyone growing up that was interested. I DO know how to put gas in my car and learned not to remove ice from the windshield with a hammer.

That's cool Jake. When I was a missionary I worked on our van when I could. Bought one of those repair manuals specific to the van model and followed that. Usually had to have a tow truck come pick it up when I was finished

If you buy a pickup (any kind) you need to buy 4WD and you need to put a shitload of weight in the back. All pickups are light in the ass end. That is why I recommended the Jeep, all weight (although not a lot) is right over the axles. I would disagree that this Jeep is worth 6500.00. I think it is. I wouldnt pay it though, because you can do so much better. But this guy has built this well apparently. He has supersized everything that he has had to replace. But to continue fixing it you will have to continue the supersizing which is expensive, and it is still a 1980, which is old. You can find parts no problem, but its like marrying a 90 year old women with Parkinsons and diabetes, you are just going to keep bringing her to the hospital and buying new parts for her. Its a nice jeep, but the V8 with the tranny he has in it is a very powerful rig. I own a 4 cyl and am very happy with it. It has more than enough power to fly down the road, but not so much that I overspin in the winter when I touch the gas. You can buy a 4 cyl with hard and soft top for under $20K. Then have fun as you get money and work on it.
THAT WHICH DOES NOT KILL ME, CERTAINLY MUST MAKE ME STRONGER
