    Idiot of 2004

"There is never a shortage of idiots, but, Principal Vidmar takes the cake! The idea that quotes from the Declaration of Independence are unconstitutional is absolute non-sense and shows political correctness gone full circle.”

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6578096/

School bans history materials referring to God
Calif. teacher prohibited from giving Declaration of Independence
Updated: 5:02 p.m. ET Nov. 24, 2004LOS ANGELES - A California teacher has been barred by his school from giving students documents from American history that refer to God — including the Declaration of Independence.

Steven Williams, a fifth-grade teacher at Stevens Creek School in the San Francisco Bay Area suburb of Cupertino, sued for discrimination on Monday, claiming he had been singled out for censorship by principal Patricia Vidmar because he is a Christian.

"It's a fact of American history that our founders were religious men, and to hide this fact from young fifth-graders in the name of political correctness is outrageous and shameful," said Williams' attorney, Terry Thompson.

"Williams wants to teach his students the true history of our country," he said. "There is nothing in the Establishment Clause (of the U.S. Constitution) that prohibits a teacher from showing students the Declaration of Independence."

Vidmar could not be reached for comment on the lawsuit, which was filed on Monday in U.S. District Court in San Jose and claims violations of Williams’ rights to free speech under the First Amendment.

Phyllis Vogel, assistant superintendent for Cupertino Unified School District, said the lawsuit had been forwarded to a staff attorney. She declined to comment further.

    Other materials rejected
Williams asserts in the lawsuit that since May he has been required to submit all of his lesson plans and supplemental handouts to Vidmar for approval, and that the principal will not permit him to use any that contain references to God or Christianity.

Among the materials she has rejected, according to Williams, are excerpts from the Declaration of Independence, George Washington's journal, John Adams' diary, Samuel Adams' "The Rights of the Colonists" and William Penn's "The Frame of Government of Pennsylvania."

"He hands out a lot of material and perhaps 5 to 10 percent refers to God and Christianity because that's what the founders wrote," said Thompson, a lawyer for the Alliance Defense Fund, which advocates for religious freedom. "The principal seems to be systematically censoring material that refers to Christianity, and it is pure discrimination."

In June, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear the case of a California atheist who wanted the words "under God" struck from the Pledge of Allegiance as recited by schoolchildren. The appeals court in California had found that the phrase amounted to a violation of church and state separation.

I've actually heard this teacher speak on several radio talk shows recently. He's drawing a lot of support from people who are getting quite tired of the whole "remove God from our history" movement.

Yea, apparently (in this particular case) the teacher was responding to questions being asked BY HIS STUDENTS. Apparently several of the students asked about the origins of the words "Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance. When the teacher addressed the question and then provided historical documentation to support the facts, the principle freaked out, banned all the material from the classroom and sought to suspend the teacher for failing to adhere to the "separation of church and state" policy. Total Bullshit in my opinion.

There is an inverse relationship regarding frees speech in relation to conservative and liberal views.

OK I'll agree with you 100% on that but...

What's that got to do with the historical truth about the founding documents of this nation; the Founders of this nation, and thier references to God in their writings?

Ahhh ok so what I think you are saying is that since Cali is a "liberal state" it is more prone to object to historical documents (like the Declaration of Independance, Jeffersonian Letters, etc.) that have any mention of God or a Creator?

I think Foamy the squirrel should do an episode about this

I have a very low opinion of the liberal mentality. For example:

    - The death penalty is wrong, but abortions are OK.
    - A Christmas manger scene is offensive, but displays of transvestites and bestiality are OK
    - Racism is wrong, but the NAACP and the Essence Awards are OK

Crap like that. No logical thinking. Yep, Foamy really should do a song.

Imagine the world if no one had a belief in some sort of higher power. Morals would not exist, and what would keep us from killing, raping etc etc. Yes there are many atheists who are not criminals, but at the same time God or gods are the cause for many many deaths, ie. the creusades, muslims killing 2,000 americans on 9/11 in the name of Allah and mass suicides like Heavens Gate. Religion has played a major and often ironic role in society throughout history. America was first colonized by those seeking freedom of religion, many presidents have made their religious beliefs known, yet have also been masons. The clash of church and state is even on our currency. On the back of the $1 bill it says "IN GOD WE TRUST" but right next to it says "Novus Ordo Seclorum" which basically means "New Secular Order", which is basically science free from religious influence. I personally think the attempt to purge public schools from any religious influence whatsoever is ridiculous. When testifying in court, you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help you God, yet the 10 commandments can't be displayed in a courthouse. Religion is a very interesting subject and the irony of the separation of church and state can be somewhat comical IMO.

Revisionist history has been all the rage for at least the last decade. I remember a high school history book that came out in the early nineties Rosa Parks was covered over 12 times while George Washington was only mentioned three times! In a history book about the USA! The majority of the book was dedicated to feminists and social activists. I wasn't a history book, it was an agenda.

This is a good point. Most everything is coming down to an agenda. With public education as it is anyone with a point of view can write something, and spend some extra money and get whatever piece of shit in the classrooms.
