How did it become a COLOR thread? You mean other than the fact that all the people he fired are white and that he intends to replace all of the them with blacks? With no mention of the applicants abilities? Or that if he was white he would have already been fired? One must wonder...

I would prefer to be proud of my own accomplishments, not something that someone of similar skin color has done some number of decades ago. I can look at someone like Nikola Tesla and say wow, he was awesome, but I would not try and call that my own "pride." I can see not being ashamed of your heritage, but calling it pride I just dont see eye to eye with. Since I live in close proximity to a lot of "mexican people," some friends and I discuss this from time to time. One of them speaks a little Nahutal, and can tell you various historical facts about various regions of the Latin Americas.

Many of those who claim pride, can't tell you what they are proud of, other than skin color, or some sloganized statement that they have heard. Some people are proud to speak spanish, yet they can't often tell you much about how life was like before their land was raped by the Spaniards, because typically there is not a large amount of interest in historical studies beyond propoganda.

No, I don't mean JUST profiling, I mean that anywhere
a man like myself go, regardless of our demeaner or our
dress ( business attire, casual attire, sports attire, etc...)
we are ASSUMED to be involved in criminal activity.....

I didn't post this as a COLOR thread, I posted it as a thread
detailing a person who made a decision that I didn't agree with;
AS DG806 stated, it typical for newly elected southern sheriff's
to clean house and replace personnel with whomever they desire.
READ the story AGAIN, it states that he fired all of the deputies including
the FOUR highest ranking deputies, WHO WERE WHITE
(The four highest ranking deputies were white but
the remaining deputies were of various races)

When I first read this thread I wanted to say the same thing as you but I knew I would get burned for it....I am not a racist and I dont give a fuck......I know many "black" people , in fact the first real good black friend I made was when I worked for a small retail store and I got in a fight with a black guy that always talked shit about how cool he is jsut becasue he is black and puting down white people, after the fight he called me racist but after that we became really good friends...anyway I hate it when I am on the street and we pull over a black person for something and they automatically say "is it becasue I am black?".. ummm no sir its becasue you were going 20mph over the speed limit....Most officers dont give a fuck about racial profiling but they do perform criminal profiling, so if you act like a banger dress like a banger and talk like a banger you are a banger, doesnt matter what your coler.....I dont like it that some black people think they are better or special....Remember the movie "white boy's can't jump" ??? damn imagine if it was "black boys......" I agree with your first paragraph to a certain degree. It really depends on where you live.

As for this turning into a thread about color, if you think that race has nothing to do with the sheriffs actions...well...you're just ignoring the facts.

The only people who have the right to call themselves <some nationality>-American are people who are born in another country and then move here and get citizenship.

For instance, did you know that John Kerry's wife (Teresa Kerry) is African-American? She was born in South Africa and move to the USA and married an American. So she's African-American.

I had to edit my previous thread but since you missed it,
the stiry states all deputies were fired, of which the four highest
ranking deputies were white, ALL of the deputies were not white.

Yes I did know about Ms Kerry and note the semantic term that I used,
I said AFRO-AMERICAN (meaning I am a descendent of someone from Africa) not AFRICAN-AMERICAN

Dfinest, my cousin works in the Charles County Sheriff office and I'm sure the same thing happens there. And I met the Sheriff of Charles County last year. Seemed to be a pretty good guy!

Sheriff Hill was among a spate of black candidates electedlast year in the county, which was once dominated by rural whites. The fired employees included four of the highest-ranking officers, all of them white. Sheriff Hill told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that their replacements would be black.


Sheriff Hill's move provoked an angry reaction from thenewly elected chairman of the county commission, EldrinBell, who is black. He called the move illegal and filed for the restraining order granted by the judge, Stephen Boswell.

Judge Boswell granted a 30-day restraining order, halting the firings, and wrote that it appeared that "employees of the sheriff were terminated without cause" and in violation
of the county's civil service rules.

Sheriff Hill disagreed.

"A lot of people are under the impression that the sheriff's office is under civil service laws," he said. "But my research shows the employees work at the pleasure of the sheriff."

Sheriff Hill said one of the reasons for the security accompanying the firings was the assassination of Sheriff Derwin Brown in neighboring DeKalb County in 2000. Sheriff Brown was gunned down in the driveway of his home three days before he was to be sworn in. The former sheriff, Sidney Dorsey, was found guilty of plotting to kill him and sentenced to life in prison.

"Derwin Brown sent out letters to 25 to 30 people letting them know they would not be reappointed when he took office," Sheriff Hill said.

The Clayton County Sheriff's Department employs 345 people.

Well.............where I work almost all the violent offenders, actually ALL the offenders, are black or brown. Normally black! 90+ % ,So are most of the victims. This makes things easy for us and racial profileing is a concept weve never even seen in action. And we have an awfull lot of violent crime.

So with all this would it make you all feel better if we spent 50% of our time, or whatever the race breakdown is, looking for white criminals? Just say the word, I'll do it!
