Aren't MS usually the source of most spyware anyway?

Isn't that like using petrol to extinguish fire?

No, MS isn't the source of any spyware (DRM is another matter). But I wouldn't trust them for the same reason that I don't trust the Yahoo! spyware remover. If you make spyware and are business partner of Yahoo!, the Yahoo! spyware remover doesn't mark your spyware for removal.

Update on this after installation and use.

You should know ahead of time this program will look your OS over to see if your operating system is legit. If you’ve used a key generator to get your pirated copy of windows to run be aware that this key will be subjected to a verification process with Microsoft. As is typical with Microsoft nothing is ever as it seems ...

It appears that this program from Microsoft tried to report a few things I had downloaded that were not spyware. I used Morpheus for some games such as Civilization III and Age Of Empires. This program tried to report those as well as a few other downloads of the same type ...

If you use P2P programs then disable the option that allows this program to phone home and tell on you. Keep your firewall set on high and observe ALL outbound traffic while this thing runs.

That said I like this program ... it did catch some stuff that was missed by other programs. It has a very user friendly GUI. The reports are detailed and also simple to work with.

As with everything from Microsoft you just need to be observant. I suspect that MS has an alterior motive for releasing a free spyware/adware detection program ... they never do things for ultrueistic reasons. I've uninstalled it and am going with other options because I believe that this program is designed to spy on my me as well as catch spyware/adware. Yes it's a beta and most likely will be followed by the retail version but this is a very WIDE beta test. Millions wide I imagine ...
If you are completely legit in whatever you are doing with software and downloads then this program may be good stuff. However ... if you are in the gray areas then be afraid.

"No, do not validate Windows at this time, but take me to the download."

Did some of you miss this option?

Today (tuesday) they also released a worthless "antivirus program" w/o real time scanning. If you already have a virus program the one from microsoft is useless, if you dont have one, the lack of real time scanning makes it a poor option.

I know, that is what I had to do, just did not see the point of jumping thru hoops to download it, in fact it should just be included with XP like the Firewall is.

the whole problem with the Windows OS is Internet Explorer. IE is a giant sive due to the complexity of the code and how shoty the application was developed.

the best thing you can do is to install LitePC on your system then install the Windows OS. None of the code used for IE is installed on your sytem then you use a 3rd party browser like Mozilla Firefox, or you can run Unix...

You just think you have it uninstalled. I will bet you it's still there.

    lol ..you are paranoid !

MS would not benefit from using it's own spyware as it is illegal per FCC regs. I highly doubt that MS is looking to get into a billion dollar class action lawsuit with it's users..
