Music file converter?

Is there a program that will convert my .wav or .wmp files to .mp3? I found one, but its $30+.. I would prefer a free one

Any help appreciated.

Winamp makes a bunch of conversions... kinda tricky to work though.

Jet audio is cool. Easy to use, rip cd's to harddrive and converts. I also like the player as much or more than winamp.
