Battery, Battery, Battery and did I mention the Battery.
My 256MB suits me fine cause I am rarely gone from home that I'd need anymore than 2-3 hours of music, changing the songs is easier than burning a cd. If I go some place I'll be for long I bring my laptop w/ my 80GB USB HD or my little laptop HD to USB converter with a 6GB hard drive.

What is the iPod Battery Replacement Program?
If your iPod requires service only because the battery’s ability to hold an electrical charge has diminished, Apple will replace your iPod for a service fee of $99, plus $6.95 shipping. Be sure to follow all of the battery troubleshooting steps before submitting your iPod for battery replacement.
a good lithiom ion battery costs about $100 so it doesn't sound like they're screwing you.
btw, if you buy the "ipod" it comes with both the firewire and the usb cable in the box. if you buy the "ipod HP" I think it only comes with the usb cable.

My mp3 player runs on one AAA battery and I have rechargable ones so I spend very little on batteries, if it runs out while I'm out I can toss a replacement in and keep going. I hate embedded Li batteries I had a cell phone with one and I hated that I had to give away the whole phone when I needed a replacement it's mine why should I have to give it up for a while to get the battery replaced when there's a hundred things in my house that I pop the cover on, dump the batteries out and put new ones in? Would you like a car that had a gas tank that slowly started leaking gas until it had to be taken into the shop and had the tank replaced? It sounds like a scheme to get more money why not just have an owner replaceable battery so the consumer can by backups and spares?

I agree with manic. The problem with the ipod battery is that it only lasts between 1 year to 1 1/2 years. After that it no longer holds a charge. So u wind up having a very sexy and expensive paperweight on your hands. Yes, you can get a replacement but they cost $100 dollars.
Flex, my advice to you is to get a player with built in flash memory (even better if it has slot for additional memory). No moving parts, light and not expensive. If you get something with say 1 GB internal with an additional 1 GB external , you could have 2 gigs worth of music (say 25-30 albums). These players usually run on regular re-chargeable batts.
New monster-sized flash Memory cards will be out very soon.
get the ipod dude.

I bought an iPod Mini a couple days ago. Damn that thing rocks. It's nice and small, and does not get in the way when I work out. I went though my CD's and loaded 350 songs onto it, leaving me with plenty of room for growth. It's easy to stay under 1,000 songs when you don't load every song from every CD onto it. I probably own upwards of 200 CD's.
I got a green one.

so you recommend it, IAB?
i was either gonna get that one (the mini), or the the tiny ones that are coming out and save $150.
the only thing i don't like about the tiny ones is that there's no display, so how the hell do you play the songs you want?

The $99 model holds up to 120, while a $149 model can store 240 because it has twice the memory. Hard disk models store thousands of tunes. Unlike similarly priced flash players, the Shuffle doesn't include a screen. Instead it "serves up new combinations of your music every time you listen," says Steve Jobs, Apple CEO.

I do recommend the Mini, but keep in mind I have not even owned it a week yet, so I don't have that much experience with it. However, I can say that loading songs onto it from CD's is simple using the iTunes program, and buying songs online and loading them onto the Mini is even easier. The Mini itself is easy to use, too. I paid $249 for it at the Apple store at Westfarms.Originally Posted by Flex
With that new iPod Shuffler (or whatever it's called), I don't think you can pick and choose your songs once it starts playing. You load your songs, then it shuffles them and plays them. That's it.
*EDIT* The iTunes program is included on a CD when you buy any iPod. It's in the box.
awesome, IAB.
keep me posted on how you like it. I'm prob. gonna buy one in the next few weeks, so i gotta make a decision.

That kills it for me. I usually pick specific tunes based on my mood at any given time. I don't want Nora Jones playing when I want to work out to some metal.Originally Posted by yellowmoomba

The iPod (all models so far) have "Playlists", so you can dump a bunch of songs onto a list and the iPod will only play those songs. I have not used that function yet, but I am working on it.Originally Posted by Dale Mabry

I actually have problems using any mp3 player on explosive lift day. I am thinking of trying the arm band route, but I don't think that will work for cleans anyway. They need to just make wireless headphones to solve the problem. I hear they are a couple of years off, but I imagine they could use bluetooth to get the ball rolling.

That's precisely my problem. My mp3 player is fine since I have a belt clip, but the long cord catches my knee on the squat and Clean and i end up ripping out the headphones. I tried running the cord down my back and sliding the player more towards my ass, but the ear buds don't fit right then. I think if I get a very short cord and arm band I will be fine.Originally Posted by Flex

Better link.

You can already buy it online at the apple site.
I think the iPod Shuffle is a waste... just get a regular.
Flex, get an ipod you won't regret it.
I thought a mini would be sufficient when I was considering purchasing. I ended up going to my local Costco to buy, and the mini was 249, and the 20GB was 279. No brainer at that point. 5 times the capacity for $30 more... Easy choice for me. The mini isn't THAT much smaller than the 20GB...and once it's clipped, same difference.
The shuffle looks cute and all, but personally, i like to be able to control what I listen to. I've had mine for a month and i have a 1000 songs on it. Majority of them are NOT suitable for the gym....so i make playlists...which absolutely ROCK. I have a techno-GYM playlist....and a ROCK playlist... I pick and choose depending on my mood. The playlists can be as long as you want...
Best investment i've made in my fitness routine since joining a gym!

Sure you can pay for it now, but you won't get the thing for 2-4 weeks.Originally Posted by aggies1ut

I too am looking for something but don't really want to blow a few hundred dollarrs. The reviews from this board are good, but the cnet site offers you much more feedback.Originally Posted by Flex
