Airbus A380

The sweetest commercial airplane will launch tomorrow and set a new standard for comfort and size in aviation.

100 years ago we were wondering if we could fly. Talk about perspective.

On BBC they were saying sometime in March. But there is doubt, because the plane came in 5 tons OVER weight(airbus is building 2 as of right now). They say its not a problem, but thats a pretty major flaw.

Instead of making these things bigger I wish they'd focus on making them faster. The 10 hour flight to Europe from Cali is a real drag. I bet the seats in coach are just as cramped as in the existing Airbus models.

Fuel consumption is higher when something goes faster. So it wouldnīt be very practical to build one of those to commercial flights. I do remember of a plane built buy NASA some time ago that traveled three times faster than the speed of sound.

If you flew at very high altitude the air resistance would be significantly diminished and you'd save fuel, right? Concord was never economically viable but it sure looked fun.

Not really because you do have less air resistance but you have less oxygen to burn the fuel as well and somehow it takes more fuel to travel the same distance. I canīt explain now how it works though.

Put the RAMJET on an airbus and maybe things would work out.

I made one flight on the Concord in 2000, and yes it was a HELL of a lot of fun.

I doubt you'll see ram jet technology in a civilian airplane in this lifetime. The US isnt pouring all that money into it just to get our big asses from Australia to New Jersey faster. Its a pure military program. What we will see in our lifetimes is a stealth bomber that can get anywheres in the world in two hours to stick a mach-10 missile up some tyrants ass................Rich
