I work out for a multitude of reasons. One of the main reasons I work out is so I can be an effective asset on the battlefield. My Comrades-in-arms depend on me to carry my share of the load, and,(God forbid) a fallen buddie should he/she be wounded or killed in action. I take this charge serious. The last thing I want is to be in a situation where I need to carry someone to safety and am physically unable to do so.

And, like Rich46yo, it's nice to be able to "knock the shit" out of younger opponents in hand-to-hand engagements.

I originally started to gain LBM and increase my strenth for performance in sports. now I do it mostly for health and fitness and to keep myself challenged on a daily basis.
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.

For me it is simple. I want to grow old. That's it.
Simple, overweight people have high insidences of heart attacks. I don't want to die of a heart attack. I want to see my kids grow up, get married, have kids, you know, the progression or circle of life (yeah, I know, like the Lion King)

Do I do it for looks? LOL....Nope, I would need plastic surgery to fix that and even that isn't guaranteed, I mean, they're doctors, not magicians....

I started to lose 140lbs. By then I was addicted and can't stop. I'd like to look good and be strong, but mainly it's a stress reliever and habit for me.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain...

To help Witmaster should he ever fail to be able to carry another from the battlefield, to be able to carry him, and so when he has to carry me I'm not a fat slob which slows him down and gets him killed.
THAT WHICH DOES NOT KILL ME, CERTAINLY MUST MAKE ME STRONGER

In my mid teens it was to be able to stand my ground. In my late teens is was to be able to able to slap down anyone who needed it at any time any where. In my early 20's it was to keep up my rep and enjoy a SoCal lifestyle. In my late 20's it was to improve my physical skill at what ever I did. My early 30's it was to keep up with a horney wife and stay healthy. Plus I loved looking good. My late 30's it was a habit that felt good. My early 40's it was out of need to look and roll young. My son has an active life and I like being able to keep up.

    Fear
So many cries of inequality stem from one of group
of people doing little or nothing and then bitching
about another group that actually does something
    to improve their lives.

To be able to walk into any room and know that I'm stronger, faster and look better naked than any other guy there. I love walking through a room and getting a smile from a girl who is standing beside her boyfriend/husband.
Today I can do what others will not so that tomorrow I will do what others cannot.
