    Shroud of Turin.. interesting story!!

I just watch 'The O'Reilly Factor' and he had a segment on this.

Apparently, it has been discovered that the Shroud of Turin's 1988 radio carbon dating was incorrect.. meaning that the original dating to the middle ages was incorrect, and that it was only a patch made to the original shroud. Further testing will provide the accurate date..purportedly 'much older than originally thought'

Very interesting.. especially because even now after all the tests they have run, scientists can still cannot explain where the image came from... it was not painted, but other than that.. they have nothing! Consider the implications...

    something to think about!

I forget the accuracy with carbon dating, but it isn't accurate too far back. I just wish I could remember if it was thousands, or tens of thousands of years.

Actually, Mudge, I heard recently in an excellent radio news report on how carbon dating can be off by more than tens of thousands of years. It can be off by millions. According to that report, there are many documented cases where the discrepancy of each report on any one subject matter was more than a few milion years.

This was a few months ago on the public television's radio station. I love news radio.

"Carbon-14 dating is a way of determining the age of certain archeological artifacts of a biological origin up to about 50,000 years old. It is used in dating things such as bone, cloth, wood and plant fibers that were created in the relatively recent past by human activities"

And the anabolic connection is it works by using the Half Life[I] of C-14, a radioactive isotope of regular carbon C-12. It is very accurate, C-14 degrades at a very specific rate and the amount of C-14 left in an object, compared to the amount of C-14 in a newly formed substance tells you how old it is.

The Shroud of Turin is a fake, and was created by Leonardo Da Vinci. The face may be a self-portrait of Leonardo.

There are more conspiracy theories surrounding da Vinci than anyone.

nothing more than conspiracy theories. maybe they should try proving it was painted before worrying about who painted it.

There was a great show on the National Geographic channel about the Shroud over the weekend.

It was fascinating, to say the least.

They painted a pretty conclusive case for Leonardo having created it, and also as to how.

There are some interesting discrepancies in the image of the shroud. One - the face and the perspective of the face does not match the body.

Another thing - the front "picture" is shorter than the rear picture.

If it's the same person, how is all this possible?

The theory (and they went into quite a bit of detail, including DaVinci's close relationship with the powerful family that owned and displayed the Shroud) is that a camera obscura was used. The cloth was painted with a very thin layer of photosensitive material (available at the time, believe it or not).

The difference in height between front and back was because of a slight difference in distance from the camera between "shoots".

The face is different because it was done with a bas relief carving, perhaps by (and maybe OF) Leonardo.

Not that anyone would actually fake a religious relic to line their pockets...

It takes a big man to cry. It takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.
