Microscam

Anyone else been using XP without the service packs? Ive refused time and time again to install that ****ed thing. This is after I uninstalled it because programs like my HALO demo(I wont buy it unless they add co-op to it) stopped working.

Well, Out of nowhere- Not after a reboot, or anything like that, My IE flat out refused to download any image files. Reset settings, cookies, files, rebooted, everything. It would download and display anything except .jpg, .gif, and .bmp files ect(flash worked fine)

Finally, I gave in and let it install its trashware on my computer and now they work.. Thus proving Bill Gates has total controll over PCs everywhere.

BUY LIBERTY, BUY LINUX!

But, you dont have to buy Linux. Thats the half the point of open source software. You could have just as easily run FireFox or some other browser, instead of going all the way and going Linux.

SP2 for XP causes some issues, indeedy. I have a stock install at home and it works just fine, no service packs.

My "Corporate" XP work's great, don't do the SP2 thing it's broken, they know it is and they expect you to tell them whats wrong with it.

Linux is wonderful if you have the time and patience to fiddle with it, but most folks don't have those skills.

Firefox is far superior to ie. So many plug-ins. AND there's very few virus scripts being written for it right now.

Linux was released under GNU in 1993, definitely open source.

I just installed Fedora Core 2 yesterday, and with the exception of picking a partition, was a completley no-brainer. Even though I used three CDs (there are four total) it only took about 35 minutes.

Once it came up I created a non-root account and didn't have to do anything else. Nada. The DHCP client picked up my cable modem and away I went.

Once you install it, get the adblock and tab preferences extensions.

Like I said, that's the only part that might have been confusing to a non-tech. I had to pick a partition because I have four hard drives. You can just tell it to do a typical user install and it will partition and do everything else for you.

I have to admit Linux has come a long, long way but the minute you encounter a problem there's no one to rely on to help you out especially for drivers. If I didn't have a free copy of XP I'd def. be on Linux and if I didn't have a free copy of Office 2003 I'd be on OpenOffice.

Just wipe windows completely off your system, you'll never have trouble with partitioning again

You should get the rpms for apt and synaptic. it solves the module dependacy problems that occured with the older linux kernels

You have been saved!

Don't forget to get the adblock and tabbed preferences extensions. And the browser agent one is pretty good too.

Lastly, I think there is a Windows optimized version of FireFox out there.

Yeah i'm running fc2 as well. The auto update fucntion only keeps the core fedora rpms up to date, get apt and synaptic its well worth it. with synaptic ive got access to 4000+ different apps, PM me if you need repository lists
