    Drink driving question.

hey guys! i'm on my P plates which means i can drive anywhere i want but i'm not allowed to drink at all! for 3 years, then i can have a drink or two and still legally drive. Anyways the question is, If i was to drink a beer or maybe a bit of spirits, how long would i have to wait till i register 0 on the breatherliser?

One unit takes about 1 hour. But whether you register 0 after this time is another question.

My advice is to get yourself a designated driver.

Have a cab drop you off at a bar a few miles from home, then when you need to go home, walk and you'll be sober by the time you get there or if you're such an alchie you can't learn your lesson, sell your car, buy alot of booze and drink at home until you croak.

I wrote a long paragraph about alcohol time required and so on, then hit a link by accident, back-paged and it was all gone, so this is all you'll get
1 beer, 1 glass of wine, or 1 shot take 1 hour
though 3 drinks takes less then 3 hours
from your post I assume your young, so just be careful

That is true, i believe, but is only an estimate for the "normal" person. What you have left in your system depends on size, weight, fat, muscle, height, etc.

Well it has alot more to do with that, ie alcohol content, food in stomach I think even frequency of use
but yes it is just an estimate for average

I wouldnt risk it, obviously you already got busted once. Do you know how much is sucks to not have a license and having to bug your buddies for a ride. Like everyone is saying get a designated driver or hire a cab.

ok to clear some things up. This is for like prom night, im driving my date to and from and the after parties etc. No i won't be drunk, it'll only be a beer or two MAX. I'm 6 foot 1ish and almost 200 pounds. Im thinking prom will finish midnight, drive to after party, drink a little, drive home.....8ish? in the morning?

And no i haven't been busted before because i've never risked drinking and driving straight away and i won't be! just wanted to know how long i should wait.

well like TCD said your blood alcohol level drops by the equivalent of 1 unit every hour. so two beers is like 5 units unless you drink that cats piss called fosters or XXXX in which case its only 4 units. So after 2 beers I would wait a good 3 hours before driving. Its not worth it anyway just pay for a nice cab then you be able to get blind drunk and you wont look like a complete prat for drink driving

Hurri one thing to keep in mind that most of these posters telling you "not to" are "20 something Americans", or younger. Which statistically means that at least 50% of them have at some time driven a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs and/or alchohol. If they do drink alchohol then I'd say that close to 100% of them have at some time driven while over the legal limit.

The real question is: how much do you respect the girl that you're taking to the prom? Enough to NOT have a few beers?

Well, to be honest, I'm somewhat encouraged that he is actually asking for advice. When I was a kid we didn't have designated drivers. We had designated DECOYS! Frankly it's God's grace I survived my youth.

OK, typically, regardless of bodyweight, it takes 1 hour for your body to process 1 beer. Likewise, it takes one hour for one ounce of liquor. So, if you have 2 beers, say, within 15 minutes of each other, it's probably going to take a little over 2 hours to completely process the alcohol out of your system.

Of course, the smartest thing to do is abstain from any alcohol consumption altogether but, I know how Proms go.

Safe bet is, if you insist on having a couple of beers try and consume early in the evening and then SAY NO for the rest of the night. Give yourself plenty of time to pass the effects out of your system and safely transport your date home.

I think that having a few(lets say 2 drinks) then makes it a lot tougher to resist the temptation later on in the night...I say completely refrain from ingesting any alcohol for two reasons: #1 why risk getting caught with even a minute amount of alcohol in ur blood and loos the license and #2 imagine dealing with any repercussions attached to drinking and driving...Ask parents, family, friends, uncles, neighbours, anyone to drive for yall, just take a cab or even better a limo...Its prom nite after all!

You are too young to be drinking for this reason... not that a lot of adults don't either... basically the question doesn't matter b/c you shouldn't be drinking anyway. Why put the risk there over 2 beers that you won't even get a buzz over? At 17 or 18 you can't possibly be drinking it for any other reason than that.

If your doing this for image then grab a bottle or can and go to the bathroom, dump it in the sink, fill it with water and walk around with it, when you see who ever you're trying to impress chug that fucker and then grunt like a beast, cause you are the coolest.

god damn, maybe i named the topic wrong. The people who flamed me please read carefully, i'll only say it one more time.

I didn't say i was planning to drive drunk or under the influence! I was asking how long it'd take till i was no longer under the influence of alcohol AKA blood alcohol level of 0. Read it above in my other posts, it's what i said. Instead of jumping on the flame button and gettin on your high horse, how bout acutally reading the fukin post?

to sum up, i never planned on drink driving. i planned on waiting till i'm sober (0 blood alcohol). I simply came to ask how long i have to wait till i am sober.

I am dissapointed in the people who jumped the gun and acted like assholes, i thought this community was better than that?

If you read some, they are not saying that you are planning to drive drunk. They are saying that they think you should just skip the 1-2 beers and play it safe.

I would skip it, is it really going to kill you to not have 2 beers that night? If so you have more problems to deal with than your BAC (blood alcohol concentration).
