    Hi Dale,

I'm doing mine today and electronic filing for the first time. In the past I always liked getting a check in the mail as proof.

How long ago did you electronic-file your return? How long did it take to get your refund? Where did you electronic-file it? How much do they charge to electronic-file?

    Take Care, John H.

I went thru the IRS website which has a link to go to H&R Block for free. I filed last Thursday and got my refund this am so it took about 8 days to be deposited into my account.

It took me about 15 minutes to file. Oh, don't go to HR website, you have to go thru irs.gov to get it for free.

I'm still waiting to get my W2. This is the first year that I own a house so it should get a very good return. Do you think that next year I can itemize my AAS?

cFs3 - this is my second year filing with my house, the mortgage interest has been a huge write off for me each year.

I just finished mine yesterday so hopefully I will have the money deposited by the end of next week.

The good thing is that the first year the majority of payments are for interest. Well, good depending on how you want to look at it.

I think we're getting back like $1500. This is our first year owning a house. I think we are still waiting for some paperwork before we can file though.

I don't know...my wife's a CPA and handles all the taxes. I just hand over my paychecks and as long as money spits out of the ATM, I don't ask questions.

    Sounds familiar...

As for only getting back $1500, did you just buy the house? Because you should get back all the money that you paid towards interest.

This is my first year in my house too, but I only closed in August also. I'm hoping for at least 3K back!

If you're referring to getting the interest back on a home loan, it's not like you can choose to not have it taken out during the year.

I am talking about the fact that you get a tax refund. Should adjust your withholding so you come out even or about even.

You don't get your interest back. You get a deduction for it but that deduction does not put nearly as much dollars back in your pocket as goes out in interest.

$12.95 paid 3 weeks ago, $3500 dollar check from the IRS is in the mail. (my girlfriend)

I do what Pepper said. I adjust my witholdings so that I come out pretty much even. I have to mail a $30 check to the IRS by april 15th. I dont like the idea of the gov holding on to my money when i can deposit the same amount into some kind of interest bearing account and make a little bit of cash.

    Hi Dale,

    Thanks for the information!

I went yesterday and did my taxes and filed it electronically. The guy who sent it in for me forgot to put the routing number and account number on my return so I could have it directly deposited. He said he resent the information in after he realized what he missed. I hope so because I wanted to get it back as soon as possible and did not want to wait for a paper check in the mail.

I'll see I guess. It was great to see how fast this can be done and easy (I guess) for those that can use computers better than I can. I am "all thumbs" I guess.

Thanks again! Take Care, John H.

    Hi Pepper,

Rent is BAD. You do not get anything back nor do you get any equity in the place you are renting.

It really is money thrown down the drain. It is infinitely better to own your own home if at all possible. It is yours and you can basically have the freedom to do and to live as you wish.

I LIKE getting money back from the government so I declare NO deductions that way I am ASSURED of getting money at a time when just about anyone needs it. Yes, I could even things out and yes I am loosing out on the interest and yes I could use the money throughout the year just like anyone else BUT I SURE HATE TO OWE ANYTHING TO ANYONE.

Unless the government figures out a way to do it (and I certainly do not think they will at some point not TRY) I am guaranteed money back. I guess it helps the government to have more money to spend since the interest and the benefit I would get myself from the money I overpay THEY can utilize throughout the year and I can not BUT at the end of the tax year it sure is DAMN NICE to KNOW you have money COMING TO YOU and that you OWE NOTHING TO NO ONE! I don't want anyone holding anything over me or taking any risks especially when it comes to my farm. I will DEFEND my complete and total ownership of it to my death. Trust me! There is no way I will ever be in any position to have anyone especially the government take away what IS MIND and WHAT I WORKED DAMN HARD FOR!!

    Take care, John H.
