I've been hypin' it since it was in theaters haha.

great flick, esp. cuz it's based on a true story. I read the book, and it just blows you away how football crazy these people were...

the movie showed me alota things, one being highschool is a special/fun time & easy to create memories.

I was glad "Boobie" got hurt, especially since he wouldn't lift.

The team they lost to in the "finals" (in real life they actually lost in the semi's to that all-black team) had Jessie Armstead as an inside LB, plus 2 other All Americans. Think they were good? haha

I actually thought the movie was boring and anti-American. Shit, in America arent the good guys supposed to win? If I want real life I'll go walk in front of a truck.

And no, I didnt really think it anti-American. But movies where the good guys dont win are boring, I pay to see the bad people die. This movie gets two thumbs down, I have a real life, I dont need to see it on TV.

I actually had been looking forward to this movie, but was kinda disappointed.

We just rented this movie this weekend. I found it interesting that the black referee made the 'catch' call on the 3rd down and whatever to give the all black team the first down and eventually became the winning touchdown. When before the game all black team was worried about where the game was going to be played and how many black referees there would be.
    Texas high school football, wow.
Sort of made me think of Varsity Blues.
Not a bad movie, not the best either.

    I disagree.

It sucks when the good guy always wins, not to mention this was based on a true story, so they're not gonna make them win in the film when they didn't in real life

I saw it and liked it, though I hate seeing how things are always played into the race card. I mean, I know that's often how it is in real life, but it still sucks. Especially when the ones who are bitching are the ones who fuck over the other guys, you know?

Thats my point Flex... I dont want to see true stories, I'm not huge into seeing real life on TV. Though actually, in a few cases it can make a good story. Black Hawk Down was pretty good, and lotsa good guys died... however, that was something exceptional. A football team losing is a dime a dozen. If they want to start making movies about that, then I think the Eagles deserve a big movie contract for losing the SuperBowl this year.

I just dont see mediocrity as being inspiring, entertaining, or worth my time. And thats why they lost... not because anything bad happened that would have made it for them, or because the other team was black and vicious, but because they just werent good enough. Its a good sob story, but in my book they're just another losing team that didnt have what it took.

    That's what i don't get

One main reason myself and many of the kids i talked to that really liked it was actually because they lost. We actually thought the opposite, that it WAS good b/c in all other flicks EVERY sports film i've EVER seen has the "good guys" winning at the end, with the exception of Rocky I. The Program, Any Given Sunday, Major League, Miracle, Mighty Ducks, Rocky (obviously not the 1st one), Over the Top, Bloodsport, ANY Bruce Lee flick, Hoosiers, Pumping Iron...i could go on forever.

Perhaps you should know (i know you don't "like" the real life thing, but in "real life" they were all scrawny white kids who, somehow, someway found ways to win. All the decades of success they had in becoming the most storied h.s. football team in the United States came from overachieving, small, scrawny, never-say-die white kids, with the exception of Boobie and Comer, who were only among a handful of good blacks that went there).

It wasn't meant to be "another" sports flick where the good-guy predictably wins. The whole point of the movie was to show just how ridiculously live-and-die the entire town was over the success of their hs football team. It wasn't meant to blow smoke up your ass....

I thought they lost in The Program.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.

I know what you're saying Flex, but I'm not a huge fan of realistic drama regardless

Most of my fav. movies are realistic dramas, some based on true stories...Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco, Blow...

what kind of movies do you like then?

Hrmm... Donnie was pretty good, but it just leaves you feeling pissed at the FBI for being an inept buncha bastards. At least his boss.

I like action and comedy pretty much. I mean, I like to laugh, or see people die in movies. Gladiator, Predator, Adam Sandlers shit, the Bourne movies, etc. I like alot more than that, but I generally prefer my movies mindless. I often read books that are educational, and enjoy seeing drama in plays. Just havent caught on to the drama thing on TV.
