    Flat-panel speaker technology
How did we turn a flat-panel surface into a three-dimensional soundstage that produces a much broader sound dispersion pattern, better boundary interaction, exceptional frequency response, and less volume drop-off than a traditional speaker?

Traditional speakers create a narrow sound field through the piston-like movement of a single cone. NXT* technology creates sound by vibrating the entire speaker panel. The result is a broad "sweet spot" for listening that traditional cone speakers cannot match. With NXT*, the "sweet spot" fills the room, delivering rich, full, evenly distributed sound—no matter where you are sitting.

Great speakers should be heard, not seen.™

    40-watt subwoofer (Fig. 6)
The omni-directional, 40-watt subwoofer with a 6" driver is designed to produce distortion-free, low-end deep bass response no matter where you place the unit—under your desk, behind a sofa or chair—wherever is most convenient. And with the transparent, wafer-thin remote control, you can adjust bass levels from anywhere in the room. Transparent Touchscreen Remote Control (Fig. 7)

475$ seems kinda expensive to me....It looks wicked, very practical but not so powerful.

Have you though of a home theater system for the room? Add a DVD player that plays ripped CD's and DVD's and you've got it all. Throw in an appliance (such as a wireless network interface device) that will hook up to your PC and play downloaded stuff on your TV in surround sound. Stream your MP3's straight from your PC to your sound system.

The options are so way more than if you just bought a shelf system. The shelf systems look cool but are under powered and very limited in use.

oak, if your looking to get a good middle of the road system you could always try out the following jvc system:

JVC 6 spkr. Home Theater System with 5-disc DVD/CD Changer, 1000 watts

    Sears item #05798954000
    Mfr. model #THM505

has surround sound and built all into one receiver, runs for about $350, you can buy it at best buy or sears. especially if you also want to hook it up to the TV for dvds, video games and so forth. also, what is the size of the room your looking to put it in?

if you want to spend more money i would highly recommend buying separate components. its all about the receiver and its capabilities. if you don't want to get to expensive, yamahaa makes a great receiver and a five disc sony dvd player (as long as it is progressive scan) it can read regular cds.

I purchased this one last year:

    http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Onkyo...oductDetail.do

Amazing sound, great for movies, music, etc. I even bought outdoor speakers to listen to good music while in my backyard and the sound is still great......
When I bought it, I had a top of the line Sony next to it (or a Circuit City top of the line Sony) and the crispness and loudness blew it away. Hell, it isn't Bose or or any of the high end systems, but it's better than a lot of the middle of the road systems that cost around the same...
Check the reviews in this link and try to find it somewhere else. You can't go wrong with this one, and the price isn't half bad for this type of system....

the size of the room is quite big so the size of the strereo doesnt matter that much...thanks for the input..that one luke recommended is giving me a headache try just to read..lol..i just want a good system that has great quality and can maybe rip shit from the radio directly onto cds..it doesn't make much of difference to me...but yeah i was thinking of going with a sony since they make quality products

You can probably pick it up cheaper somewhere else. I just showed you CC because that's where I bought mine, I actually paid $399 for mine....
    Here is the older brother:

Again, you can probably find it cheaper somewhere else, in some places $199.
This is a 5.1 dolby Pro Logic against the one that I posted earlier, which is a 6.1
