    Who knows anything about computers?

I need some help. having some problems accessing alot of pages on the net. It says page cannot be displayed. Its not a TCP/IP problem I dont think. Not spyware/virus related. Not browser either since I have several and all do the same thing. Not a network problem. and i already tried the WinSockFix.

Any other ideas. Im stuck and its getting annoying. cant access any msn/microsoft/hotmail/ and ass loads more.

    Check your HOSTS file.

For Windows 2000, you can find it here:
    C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc

For Windows 98, Me, XP, 2003, you can find it here:
    C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc

What spyware remover are you using? You should have Spybot Search and Destroy and AdAware SE. Those two combined will find anything.

Try downloading FireFox (links straight to the download) and see if you can get to the blocked pages with that browser. If you can, go to the C:\Program Files\ directory and delete the Internet Explorer folder. Then (using Firefox) go to http://www.microsoft.com/ie and download and install Internet Explorer again. Note, you will not lose your Favorites by deleting the IE folder.

Go to http://housecall.antivirus.com/ It's a free online scan. Even if you have an antivirus program, this is still a good thing to do.

If you're running a firewall of any sort, shut it off and try to access the sites. Then if you're running an antivirus, shut that off and try again (hey, it couldn't hurt). Make sure to turn it back on or reboot.

    Good luck!

Firewall? Did you just install XP SP2?
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles

Try restoring back to a day when your Internet connection worked.

If that doesn't help try installing (or re-installing) service pack 2 (direct link to EXE).

If those don't work, isntall a new NIC. Perhaps it's a driver issue?

Can you PING the addresses? If you can ping them, but not get them loaded then I'd say it's a software issue, if you can't ping them then its probably hardware.

first one roll back wont work all my m8s who have had that problem found it didnt help

second one could work though didnt think of driver issue, just use device manager to remove it and then find it again to reinstall drivers

oh also my m8s found they could ping them but still not get onto site

If you can ping but not visit the site, it's likely a DNS issue. Try changing your DNS servers.

They all time out? Try pinging ironmag and see if you get a reply. It sounds like your having trouble resolving addresses of certain sites quick enough. Maybe your ISP's using webcaching and the popular sites are bogging down when everyone is trying to get in at once.

Have you tried Safe Mode w/ Networking?
If not, reboot and start hitting F8 after the bios screen appears you'll get a menu with options choose Safe Mode w/ Networking and try accessing those websites if you can then somethings loading in Normal mode that's preventing you from getting to those sites, if not then somethings going on else where.
