Enjoying the out-doors

For those of you interested, here is a good book to help you enjoy being outside and having fun:

Fernald, Merritt Lyndon: EDIBLE WILD PLANTS OF EASTERN NORTH AMERICA, Harper and Row, c1958. Read about the poisionous plants FIRST - you want to KNOW what NOT to use beforehand.

Try some of the plants listed yourself and see. I think you will really enjoy the fun that comes with doing things like this for yourself and those you care about. And you will learn a lot and have fun doing it.

Take Care, John H.

Avoid mushrooms. Even experts screw up from time to time.

Hi Mudge,

Actually you are told that in the beginning of the book itself. And this is NOT a place to screw up - mushrooms can be DEADLY and the suffering is TREMENDOUS and permanent.

Hi Chain,

That would be true for sure.

The place where you show you are quoting me about "my ass hurts" - I never said that or made that statement. I do not talk like that and do not write like that. I do not know how you did what you did in quoting me.

Nono, I didnt mean that you said that- It was meant as a quote of the thing that would be extremely akward to hear.
Also, I didnt intend it as disrespectful, it just occured to me as I was typing and I thought it was too funny not to add

If someone studies mushrooms their whole life and loses a liver over it, I dont think growing up on a farm is going to make someone more of an expert.

My dad was a country boy too AND studies them, that doesn't mean he can identify 3200 species accurately, about 1200 of which are harmfull.

Anybody here goes outdoors to 'tough-it-out"? it's definately a very fun experience. You don't have a large load to carry and you WILL have something to talk about when you get back.
