From what I have read, Steiner has invested his money wisely and is not desperate for a big contract...He went off to rehab an injury, and was never reactivated by WWE...Supposedly they couldn't come up with any storylines for a former World Champion with a great physique and kick ass character...

I heard something like that too, bro. Unfortunately, when you go to work for any employer with the attitude that you dont need them, you dont end up putting a lot of soul into your "work". Ive read many, many of his interviews - including some on WWE.COM - because I was always interested in him, and he was always came across as a bit snotty about the chance he had at WWE. If Im a company owner, Im not going to give someone with that attitude too big of a chance because they may not deliver on their end since they feel they might not need to work too hard.

Same thing kinda happeed with the Hardys.

You gotta think the writers will give the big man a shot at being the champ. The HHH thing is getting old.

I think the simple fact is Vinnie Mac never really gave any of the former WCW talent a fair shot...In regards to Steiner, I personally think most of his attitude was in responding to this fact...I think he realized his chances were slim after seeing most of the initial talent purchased with WCW mishandled before his WWE arrival...Vince still had a chip on his shoulder even after he had purchased WCW...He tanked the Invasion angle, fed all former champs to HHH to dispose off, and let Goldberg go when he was the most over talent with the fans...If Vince doesn't create the character, he doesn't push them...Thus, I think Batista has a very good chance of being the next champ...He is completely over with the fans at this point...

So when Sarah was cheating on Lucas with Gwendolyn, did you notice that Patricia was taking pictures in the window across the street? I think that Sam and Alexa shouldn't get married until she has Ronaldo's baby and gives it up for adoption.

I used to watch WWE alot, but after Wrestlemania 17 it peaked and after Invasion, started going downhill fast. After WCW was bought the storylines became boring. And then they lost a huge bunch of their best stars around the same time...Rock, Austin, Hogan, Brock, Goldberg, hence the reason HHH is alway main eventing.WWE have no competition from WCW or ECW anymore,so theyve gotten lazy.Theres nobody been able to replace the Rock and Austin with cool feuds and nobody is that good on the mic either, Rock was class at that.

Actually, bro, there really IS no such thing as a "push". Its actually a mislabeling. If there were such a thing, then superstars could be made. But the real reason there is no such thing is economics. If a wrestler gets "pushed" when the public isnt fully ready to give in to his character, money is lost on the promotion of that character. What there is, though, is "opportunity". At each show, the crowd is very carefully monitored. The way the fans react to anything and everything that is said and done is what decides how things will go. Even Batista has made mention of this fact because he is very open in his interviews about the workings of the werstling business and his character. So open that in some cases he's drawn some heat.

But anyways, the crowd reaction tells the writers where they should go on the next show and sometimes even the current show as well. Some scripts have been re-written or altered on the spot. Such was the case when Stone Cold left without warning. When the writers see how a crowd reacts to a certain character, that character is given a bit more to say and do, and the reaction to that is also carefully monitored. This is how Batista got his shot at the Rumble win and how Eddie Guerrero got HIS shot at the title.

As time went along, the writers saw that whenever Batista stood up to HHH, the crowd responded. So they had him start saying some rather ambiguous things to HHH. This got even more response. So they then had him outright confront HHH to his face. Like the time when Batista beat Rhyno in record time to earn the last place entry into the Elimination Chamber. HHH was writen to be furious at Batista telling him that he screwed up and that he was pissing him off. So then when Batista stood up and told HHH that HE was pissing him off, the crowd went wild and the writers took note. So then at Summer Slam of that year, his script once again called for Batista to be merely an enforcer and be very willing to back HHH in the Elimination Chamber. At the start of the show, when Evolution was planning strategy, Batista was going along as a true team player. But then when he told HHH, "unless you are eliminated first. Then there is going to be NOTHING that stops me from bringing the world title home". And he walked off leaving HHH and Flair to stand open jawed. The crowd reaction to Batista when he said this was off the hook. That was a major factor in deciding that he would win the Rumble if he kept getting the same pops whenever he stood up to HHH. Then, according to Batista himself, when they saw that people were going bonkers whenever he came out, and holding Batista signs all over the place, that is what sealed the deal for him at the Rumble. Then of course when the fans at Smackdown came unglued simply because he showed up, that was all gravy, baby.

Thus, I think Batista has a very good chance of being the next champ...He is completely over with the fans at this point...
This is very true. At this point in time Batista is carrying his "new" character very well. But I do notice that HHH is helping him an awful lot by acting truly scared of him. Batista has repeatedly said that the Batista character was not like him at all. The Batista character was fierce and quiet and a follower. The real Batista has humor and talks an awful lot and even likes to cut up and be funny. So when he did an impromptu checking of his hair on LBJs limo window after he had smashed half of it already, the crowd ate it up. He is VERY over at this point and he stands a good chance to win at Wrestlemania IF he can keep being over like he is for the next few weeks.

I haven't watched "Rastlin" since the day's when the Giant, Junkyard Dogg, Big John Studd, Iron Shiek, Jesse the Body, Hulk, Roddy Piper, The Animal Steele, Macho Man, etc. They all seemed to have more character than these guys do. maybe I was just young and naive back then I don't know.

That was a large part of it, yes. When former superstar wrestlers are singned on, they are given a limited contract just in case. Goldberg merely decided not to re-sign. Im sure there were other factors, but thats the general gist.

I really enjoyed wrestling ('98)when stone cold was always beatin the crap out of vince. WWF had some great characters like Degenaration X, Sexual chocolate, and of course the Rock. I've tried watching it a few times lately, but the new characters suck. I do like the big show though.

No kidding, what is this Rock talk? He is new to me. I remember Ultimate Warriors first match and that was when I was getting bored of it. How about Sgt Slaughter?

Now the guys are all puny, thats the first thing I noticed. In theory though its more character and less intimidation now though.

Hell, I used to be more of a fan of small time wrestling. I used to watch the Texas wrestling with the Von Eriks, the Missing Link (he was hillarious, by the way), Kevin Sullivan, the Great Kabuki (spelling...), Sting and Dr. Death
Or even better, when Gordon Soley used to do the WCW on saturday mornings (before Turner bought it) with Flair and his four horsemen, The Legion of Doom, Sting, Rick and Scott (Big Poppa) Steiner, Cowboy Bob Orton (Yeah, the kid Orton's dad) and of course Dusty Rhodes and Black Jack Mulligan...
I used to have a blast watching that.
Sure I also watched WWF (I don't particularly care for the new name) with all their names, but still, the two above were my favorites....
Back then, many were just a bunch of regular fellas (some were rather large), trying to put on a show. Today you have athletes and acrobats performing feats of strength and air shows for the fans. They can definitely put on a show and I do watch once in a while, but only the pay per views...

    Hey V Player-

You are very correct about timing with the fans...Booker T. was put into a fued with The Rock when he first joined WWE...Problem is, the WCW fans were not ready to see a heel Booker T...The old Nitro fanbase, a large part of the wrestling audience Vince should have tried to capture, now saw the most decorated champ in WCW history as a heel in work out clothes that was constantly being outsmarted...Nothing like his WCW character...Thus the feud didn't go very well in my opinion...
By saying Vince doesn't "push" talent, I personally mean two things...As far as most of the WCW guys go, he altered their successful WCW image into a tweaked, weakened version that technically had his stamp on it...Yet, it always turned out for the worse...Look at the NWO, which kicked his ass in ratings for some 81 weeks in WCW...Vince brought the angle back because it was so successful...However, he didn't give it the necessary tools in WWE...He made it more of a faction of wrestlers that lost half their matchs, and were easily intimidated, rather than the dominating ass-kicking group it once was...Even Eric Bischoff and Kevin Nash have talked about this...He did not "push" the original "idea" of the group, nor give them the storyline to completely get over...
Secondly, "push" is defined by who you are paired with...As you stated earlier, Batista has had help with his character development...Being surrounded by Ric Flair and HHH gives his character the rub...When I say someone is not being pushed, I mean they are not being put into a good position to succeed...Batista is an awesome character, but I think he wouldn't have broken out as easily if he was surrounded by Steven Richards and Val Venis for a year...Not to say he wouldn't shine, but I don't think the fans would have be put the same importance on him as they did in Evolution...Once his was put into Evolution, he was given the oppurtunity on a main event status to get a reaction...
So, I agree that the fans determine a lot of what happens next...(Sometimes, as in the case of Hogan, to the detrement of the company)...However, if you are not "pushed" into a good storyline for your character, or if you never get to see a microphone, then it becomes difficult...I know it is impossible to push a character that the fans just do not want to see...However, I do think is possible to set the character in motion or "push" them in a way that is easier and more favorable...What the wrestler does with it at that point is up to them...

    -Andrew

Ah, I see. Yeah, you hit the nail right on the head. That makes a lot of sense. And I agree with everything you said about Goldberg too. There were some rumors that it had to do with the old injury he sustained, but I just didnt get a good vive about that one.

And I didnt know all that about Booker T. I never saw WCW beause I wasnt an active fan back then. That does suck what they did to him then. I do know that even now Booker is much more over as a face than a heel. he got some of the biggest pops, even over Stone Cold sometimes, when he was paired with Goldust. Those two made an awesome team, especially with their obvious talent for comedy. The first tiem I saw Booker, you couldnt have convinced me that he could have pulled that off. I hope he stays a face and I hope he gets another shot at the title when Cena wins it. All indications point to Angle getting the first shot, but it also looks like Booker could be in the hunt due to their great matches over the US title.
