I am thinking I will be purchasing all new gear this year. I bought a baitcaster 2 years ago and I still suck at it, me thinks I will get a really nice spincaster for bass and a heavy-duty one for the striped bass coming thru the Delaware this year. I will not be denied.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.

Baitcasting rods are a challenge. Backlash is so common among them. They still remain one of the best (effective) methods to hauling in large caliber fish. Kinda like hooking a crane up to em and just dragging them in.
Now if you like the fight (like me and so many others) and you don't want to drop a ton of cash on a rig, I'd recomend a Quantum Hypercast Spinning Reel. Great performance, smooth operation, ease of maintenance and very reasonably priced.
I like the fight, but I don't see myself fishing in the Delaware with 4lbs test on the line. Maybe I will get something like that for fishing in the creek and just leave it at my buddies house since I am in the city.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.

The crappy have really started biting this past week. They are still about 28ft deep. It will be about 2 more weeks before the slab crappies hit.(2lbs)
I think I will swing by bass pro shops this week and pick up some sliders. A buddy of mine caught about 30 yesterday on these.

Flipping sticks work good because they are long if you don't have crappie poles.

I caught a good sized crappie last year while jiggin, but I was just fucking around since I ran out of bait for bass. I dumped that bitch in a lake and within a few seconds I got a nice little pull and fought that fucker for a while. It was with my baitcaster so i thought it was just a tiny bugger at first so I loosened the drag and let him take it for a while. I guess my buddy was fucking around with the reel because the drag was set to hold a mack truck in place so I had no idea how big it was. When i finally got it in I shit my pants, it was about the size of my head. The fish, not the shit. I really think I have too stiff of a rod for my reel, pun intended. Plus I never use it so I can never tell if I have a big one on.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.
