Much of his comedy is still relevant today. Towards the end of his life, he caught hell for doing a bit about pro-lifers on the Letterman show.
"If you're so pro-life, do me a favor: don't lock arms and block medical clinics," Hicks said. "If you're so pro-life, lock arms and block cemeteries."
Whichever side of the fence you fall on, that's a great joke.
The trouble with recognition for his work is that hollywood would rather a canonize a no-talent like Andy Kaufman with a movie than recognize Hicks. Although I hear a movie is in the works.
For those who don't know Bill Hicks, he's similar to Dennis Leary, which is no surprise since that hack lifted Hicks' material and image.
