the
Persians who introduced them to Zoroastrian monotheism
before the Exile they believed everyone went to a Hades like place called Sheol(Hell). After a little mingling with the new religion suddenly heaven appeared in their thinking as well as later in Christianity the concept of Satan and the Apocalypse and the messiah, as well as guardian angels, etc. as well as the connections to Islam has to Judaism.
I just like to look at the history of these religions and how the influences had trickled through the millenias. They fight like crazy over the exact details when the big picture tells them to be tolerant of one another they all basically have the same foundation, they're all seeded in the same basic righteousness but they fanned out so wide they can't reach the base anymore. I think that the many of us who have given up on religion are really just going back to the roots of righteousness and watching the others dangling like fruits on the outer limbs.
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

Great point, Manic.
Meanwhile the fucking religious fanatics all over the world blow themselves up and killing other people trying to prove their religion is "da bomb".
You're a funny guy, Sully, I like you. Dat's why I'm going to kill you lahst.

You just now learning that Manic? That should have been a first or second year world history elective. If you haven't taken a good one, I suggest finding a good professor who is both a tough bastard and liberal in his interpretation. Some of the old school ones are bogged down I think. Anyways, I had a few really good ones that tought World History and various humanities courses in that realm, and it was some of the best time I've had in college.Originally Posted by maniclion
But yeah, it is funny (and enlightening) to see how memes get passed on.

Not just learning it, but I heard something on the radio this weekend about the way Buddha would have viewed our world now and it got me thinking about it the pasts of religions and how intertwined they are, especially these.Originally Posted by Eggs

Yes, Zoroastrianism has had a huge impact on the world. Ideas that were first passed to Judaism, then to Christianity, then to Islam. Parts of it have probably actually intertwined themselves in more religions than that, those are just the ones I am most familiar with. Abraham was certainly around religions that had a profound impact on what would one day be Judaism.
From an athiestic viewpoint of course.
